Job description
As an R&D Specialist in Electronics Firmware, you will be responsible for owning the firmware architecture and codebase for Nespresso portioned coffee machines, ensuring secure, scalable, and high-quality embedded software across platforms. You will define tools, methods, and processes, create requirements templates, and guide PMs and business partners to gather complete and actionable inputs. You will also drive disciplined firmware practices through toolchain governance, documentation frameworks, and rigorous requirements definition. Working closely with Hardware, UX/HMI, Procurement, Operations, and external partners, you will ensure on-quality, on-cost, and on-time delivery while enabling predictable, efficient, and robust development outcomes.
A Day in the Life of an R&D Specialist in Electronics Firmware
- Apply SHE rules and drive continuous improvement in safety, health, and environmental performance
- Lead end-to-end electronics and software development from concept to mass production
- Standardize coding practices, Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and review processes to ensure efficient development
- Prepare comprehensive project documentation, including risks, requirements, COGS assessments, and resource planning
- Organize and execute projects using the development process with clear governance and measurable KPIs
- Develop engineering competence in strategic and emerging technologies to strengthen innovation capability
- Own modular, secure, scalable, and reusable firmware architectures across platforms
- Create and maintain system and firmware requirements templates for consistent integration
- Collaborate with PMs and business stakeholders to define feasible, desirable, and well-balanced product concepts
- Integrate technical development with UI, UX, and CMF requirements to ensure cohesive product delivery
Requirements
Do you have experience in Git?, * Extensive embedded firmware development background in C/C++, RTOS, drivers, and peripherals for mass-produced appliances or mechatronic systems
- Demonstrated ownership of repositories and codebases, including platformization across product lines
- Proven experience defining and rolling out firmware toolchains, CI/CD pipelines, coding standards, and review processes
- Strong capability in writing requirements and templates and collaborating with PMs and business teams to secure complete, testable inputs
- Solid track record managing external partners such as EMS, ODM, and semiconductor suppliers from onboarding to industrialization
- Mastery of STM32 microcontrollers, RTOS integration, peripheral management, and low-level driver development
- Hands-on experience with OTA updates, secure boot, encryption, and embedded cybersecurity frameworks
- Fluency in English, with French and/or German considered an advantage
