As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead complex engineering projects, mentor junior engineers, and ensure that high-quality designs meet customer requirements. Working ArrangementsHybrid working is available following an initial induction period. During the early stages, you will be required to work closely with the business, including time spent at the South East head office to support onboarding and integration into the team. Key ResponsibilitiesLead the design of subsea technology combining functions such as breathing gases, fluids, electrical power, communication, hydraulics, and pneumatics, for seismic, defence, subsea technology (e.g., Diving) Select and size functional components (hoses, cables, optical fibres), and determine lay-up, insulation and jacket materials, braiding, armouring, and overall umbilical configuration to meet customer specifications, industry standards, and in-house requirements. Write test specifications and qualification procedures for the umbilical under scenarios such as tension, torsion, compression, and cyclic bending, when required. Qualifications and ExperienceBachelor's or higher degree in engineering, physics, or mathematics, or similar Experienced senior engineering designer using 2D CAD or 3DCAD and/or SolidWorks Strong understanding of subsea technology, including seismic energy, renewable, and marine/diving applications in high-pressure environments. Sound knowledge of electrical theory (voltage stress, resistance, voltage drop, current rating, and heating effects), hydraulics/pneumatics (pressure drop, fluid mechanics), and mechanical engineering (materials, stress/strain, fatigue). Understanding of electrical cable design and construction, including cable geometry, helix angles, lay-lengths, and copper specifications. Proficient in 2D CAD software (preferably AutoCAD); proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks) advantageous. Preferred: Exposure to ISO 9001 quality systems and experience in corrective action resolution.
