Working closely with experiments and service teams to onboard their ML use cases in a reliable, performant and sustainable manner, you will build CERN's next-generation LLM and AI agent platform, tuning models into secure, scalable services for scientific and operational use cases. You will be responsible for the design and integration of the selected tools after extensive due diligence and validation against CERN use cases in all departments., * Develop and operate the machine learning service of CERN IT, covering model training, hyper-parameter optimisation and serving, targeting optimal usage of accelerator resources.
- Integrate and operate LLM and AI agent capabilities within the CERN machine learning service, including scalable model serving, agent frameworks, and secure multi-tenant access.
- Extend existing MLOps workflows to cover deployment, observability and lifecycle management of models, agents and RAG pipelines targeting CERN and external data sources.
- Produce and present reference architectures, documentation and best practices to support CERN users and use cases., * Stand-by duty, and work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organisation., * You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State . Currently, we cannot consider applications from Pakistani and Lithuanian nationals for positions with a 2026 start date, as the ceiling defined under Article II.5 of the Associate Membership Agreement has been reached.
Requirements
- Strong background in machine learning systems with hands-on experience deployment and operating such services in production environments.
- Solid MLOps and cloud native skills, including Kubernetes and containerisation, CI/CD, observability and model lifecycle management.
- Proficiency with GPU and/or other accelerator platforms, including performance tuning and optimisation of inference workloads.
- Familiarity with open source ecosystems and willingness to contribute, evaluate upstream projects and follow community best practices., * Knowledge of operating systems.
- Knowledge of system configuration tools.
- Architecture and design of ICT systems.
- Identification and selection of relevant emerging ICT technologies.
Benefits & conditions
- A minimum entry-salary of 9236 Swiss Francs per month (tax free), increasing in line with your years of relevant experience.
- 30 days of paid leave per year plus 2 weeks annual closure.
- Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health insurance scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
