QinetiQ Training & Simulation Ltd (QTSL) specialises in the development of a wide variety of interesting, bespoke software solutions across a wide range of technology including Artificial Intelligence, AR and VR technologies and mathematical modelling, to support current MOD requirements as well as undertaking research for the next generation of simulation systems to support UK force development. Activities include software development, support to training, technology research and experimentation into how the Military can best use simulation/synthetic environments., The role is to support the delivery of Maritime Battlestaff (MBS) training and assurance exercises at in Portsmouth, around the UK and overseas utilising the latest synthetic environments and technologies to create a fully immersive and engaging exercise environment. It also provides interface to MBS participation in Tier 3 exercises run by other organisations with the potential to stretch to join Tier 4 exercises., We are looking for an IT Administrator to be instrumental in the configuration, deployment, management and troubleshooting of the IT environment within this programme of work to support specific exercise activities. You will provide regular progress reports to the project management and ensure project milestones are delivered in a timely manner.
Reporting to the MCAST Technical Delivery Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of MCAST IT environment including the hardware and applications that sit on it. Additionally, you will be responsible in the day-to-day management of technical tasks and resources and for the timely and safe completion of all IT infrastructure, within cost and to the relevant quality standards for the duration of the contract.
Tasks include:
- Responsible for the creation of the IT environment in which the exercise will be conducted.
- Responsible for MCAST service hardware, working closely with ILS engineers to ensure safe deployment of equipment to exercise and plan and undertake maintenance and upgrades as required,
- Attend and support agreed project meetings and working groups (inc IPC, MPC, FPC).
- Work closely with the Sim manager to ensure a suitable IT infrastructure is designed and delivered.
- Liaise with OPNET team, exercise delivery manager and infrastructure laydown providers to discuss, plan and deliver a complete infrastructure, including physical laydown, user accounts, access controls, information environment, links to external systems.
- Undertake site recce alongside the exercise delivery team.
- Support rollout and testing of CIS infrastructure at exercise location.
- During exercise delivery, as part of the delivery team, you will:
- train users on system.
- manage the IT environment.
- update IT environment to meet immediate training needs.
The Candidate:
This role will suit those who enjoy 'making things happen' and is very 'delivery' focused. You will be working closely with the exercise delivery and technical teams to deliver a seamless experience to the training audience. Whilst the role is based in Portsmouth with regular visits to our HQ in Farnborough, and other sites in the UK, there will be occasional need for overseas travel.
Requirements
- Detailed understanding and practical implementation of IT including setup, configuration, management, troubleshooting and training.
- Proven experience of virtualisation and cloud computing solutions (VMWare)
- Expert user of the MS Office Suite
- Track record of Systems Administration
- Practical experience of network planning, deployment and recovery
- Practical experience of hardware setup, configuration, maintenance and asset management
- Experience of working across different levels of security within a single environment
