Senior Backend Engineer

Your Objectives & Role: As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll play a core role in how our platform evolves and scales, focusing on:

• Architecting & Enhancing: Develop and refine our core backend systems, the very heart of our car parking solutions, impacting both B2B and B2C users.
• Streamline Deployment: Enhance and optimize CI/CD pipelines for both backend and IoT systems, ensuring a seamless, fully automated workflow that reliably delivers high-quality code to production with speed and confidence.
• Elevating Monitoring: Enhance our monitoring capabilities with Datadog, gaining deeper insights and proactively ensuring system health.
• Scaling for Impact: Contribute to scaling our systems to efficiently manage and operate thousands of parking lots.
• Championing Engineering Excellence: Play a key role in shaping our engineering culture, advocating for modern software engineering practices, clean code, robust testing, and efficient solutions., We embrace modern, cutting-edge technologies to build robust and scalable solutions.
• Backend: Event-driven microservices in Python and NodeJS (NestJS).
• Frontend: Monorepo powered by Turbo, pnpm, changesets, and Storybook, primarily using Vue.js.
• Frameworks/Libraries: Adoption of TypeScript, NestJS, BullMQ, and Prisma for backends in an opinionated monorepo approach.
• Databases: Amazon RDS, DynamoDB, S3.
• Orchestration & CI/CD: We manage our container orchestration with Kubernetes (EKS), using Keda and Karpenter for dynamic autoscaling. Our CI/CD is powered by GitLab.
• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform for AWS provisioning.
• Serverless: Leveraging AWS Lambda and the Serverless framework for high-throughput endpoints.

• Real seniority: Not defined by years of experience but by strive for continuous improvement, direct impact on the business, and ownership.
• Deep Expertise: You have a deep expertise in one or more languages (Typescript, Javascript, Python, C++) and a proven ability to quickly adapt to new tools and frameworks.
• Production Powerhouse: Strong track record with real-world production projects handling high throughput.
• Backend Mastery: Proficient with modern backend frameworks like NestJS, Flask, Fastify, or FastAPI.
• Clear Communicator: Excellent written and spoken English (C1 level) is essential. German language proficiency is not required.

As of now, Peter Park operates over 500 edge devices across Europe, facilitating thousands of parking and payment transactions per hour. Our physical infrastructure relies on distributed, Python and NestJS-based backend services hosted on AWS.
