Job description
As our Senior AI Engineer, you will play a key role in advancing the development, validation, and supporting tooling of our patented hybrid AI architecture. Our core technology combines Probabilistic Graphical Models (PGMs) with Generative AI to deliver explainable, transparent, and clinically robust medical reasoning. In this role, you will help shape how these components evolve and scale, ensuring they meet high standards for performance, reliability, and regulatory readiness.
Reporting to our Director of AI, you will operate at the intersection of medical intelligence and software engineering-translating complex requirements into sophisticated technical solutions. You'll collaborate closely with AI researchers, engineers, and medical experts, contributing to both the strategic direction of the platform and the hands-on implementation of production-grade systems.
This is a remote role, open to candidates based in the UK or Germany.
What you'll do
- System Evolution: Refine and scale our patented hybrid engine, focusing on the interface between LLM-based reasoning and probabilistic logic.
- Engineering Excellence: Write and deploy high-availability production code in Java and Python, ensuring adherence to security and scalability standards.
- Evaluation & Tooling: Maintain and extend our internal evaluation and validation frameworks, including synthetic data generation, automated metric tracking, and model explainability.
- Clinical Collaboration: Work with Medical Experts and AI Engineers to translate complex medical requirements into technical specifications.
- Documentation: Provide technical documentation of AI components for stakeholders and regulatory compliance (e.g. SaMD).
Requirements
- A Master's degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or similar). A PhD is a plus but is not essential.
- 3+ years of (industry) experience in AI/ML or algorithmic development.
- Proficiency in Python (mainly for AI/Logic) and Java (mainly for backend services).
- Practical experience with classic ML and algorithms, such as Probabilistic Graphical Models (PGMs).
- Hands-on experience with LLMs (ideally including RAG and Agents). Bonus points for exposure to their validation in production.
- Solid grasp of modern DevOps (Containerization, CI/CD, Automated Testing) and AI-assisted development (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code).
- A high degree of autonomy and a preference for collaborative peer reviews and documentation.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams, with a strong foundation in mathematics, logic, or statistical modelling to support rigorous problem-solving would be advantageous.
- Exposure to the healthcare sector or other regulated environments (e.g., ISO 13485, MDR, SaMD), along with familiarity in areas such as Kotlin, advanced data visualisation, or MLOps would be highly beneficial.
