Job description

Deployment Engineer (Forward Deployed)

We're working with a well-funded defence technology company building software for environments where failure actually matters - not test cases, not theory, but real operations.

They're hiring Forward Deployed Engineers to take ownership of getting complex systems working in the field. This means being close to the user, solving problems as they happen, and adapting quickly when reality doesn't match the plan.

This isn't a backlog-driven role. You'll be embedded in real environments, dealing with ambiguity, and making things work under pressure.

What You'll Do

  • Deploy and run software systems in live, operational settings
  • Work directly with end users to understand problems first-hand
  • Build, iterate, and adapt solutions quickly based on real feedback
  • Act as the bridge between engineering, product, and users on the ground
  • Take unclear, messy problems and turn them into reliable systems

What They're Looking For

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals (Python, C++, Java, or similar)
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills - you don't need everything defined upfront
  • Able to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical people
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Maths, or similar

Nice to Have (Not Essential)

  • Experience in defence, national security, or government
  • Exposure to operational or field environments
  • Experience deploying systems in distributed or constrained settings

Why This Role Is Different

  • Your work is used in real-world operations - not just shipped and forgotten
  • You'll own problems end-to-end, from idea through to deployment
  • Work alongside a high-calibre, mission-driven team
  • A chance to operate at the intersection of engineering and real-world impact
