Job description

As a Design and Sales Engineer, you'll be responsible for delivering bespoke engineering design solutions for customer projects, managing them from initial enquiry through to completion. The role combines technical design, project coordination, sales and customer management to ensure projects are delivered accurately, on time, and to the required quality standards, while contributing positively to the collaborative culture of a small manufacturing business., * Manage customer projects from enquiry through to delivery, ensuring they are delivered on time, to specification, and to the required standard.

  • Translate customer requirements into accurate design solutions, producing calculations (e.g. anchor loads and expansion) and technical drawings.
  • Prepare, manage, and update engineering drawings and documentation to agreed standards.
  • Ensure all projects meet relevant technical, quality, and compliance standards.
  • Liaise with internal teams (production, warehousing, quality, finance) to ensure smooth project flow and on-time delivery.
  • Raise quotations, process orders, and maintain comprehensive project records in the CRM system.
  • Ensure that all quotations are followed up in accordance with the company's systems and procedures.
  • To maintain existing sales accounts and where possible promote additional profitable business.
  • To secure new business of a profitable nature which is consistent with the company's capabilities and agreed commercial objectives.
  • Manage project and design risks, escalating concerns to ensure timely resolution.
  • Maintain clear, professional communication with customers and suppliers, ensuring excellent service throughout.
  • To bring to the attention of relevant personnel any market intelligence, trends or competitive activity which is considered of relevance or interest to the company.
  • Support business development colleagues with technical expertise where required.
  • Handle customer complaints and manage the returns process effectively.
  • Maintain up-to-date data sheets, technical literature, and documentation in line with the QMS system.
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative, hands-on culture within a small business environment.

Requirements

We're supporting our client, a global, leading manufacturer based in Stourbridge, who are looking for a Design and Sales Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Design and Sales Engineer will have previous experience in piping stress analysis, as well as proven ability to perform static and dynamic analysis using industry standard software., * Recognised engineering qualification (degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent).

  • 3-5 years' experience in a relevant engineering or manufacturing design role.
  • Proficiency in pipework and technical drawing.
  • Experience in engineering design, ideally within a manufacturing or project-based environment.
  • Strong problem-solving ability with high attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with engineering and quality management systems (QMS) and standards.
  • Organised, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and comfortable with order/quotation processing.
  • Excellent communication and customer management skills, with the ability to build strong, professional relationships.
  • Collaborative and flexible, with the ability to work effectively across functions in a small business.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and willing to learn new standards, tools, and practices.
  • Possesses a mechanically biased mindset, with a natural ability to understand, analyse, and apply engineering principles to practical problems.
  • Strong team player with the ability to fit into and contribute to a small business culture.
  • Customer-focused, with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and hands-on in approach.
  • Enthusiastic about learning and developing within the role.
