Job description

If you're a developer who's a couple of years into your career and looking for somewhere that takes technology seriously, tombola is worth a proper look.

This isn't a place where tech is an afterthought. We're a business genuinely driven by the quality of what we build - and the platform team sits right at the heart of that. You'd be working on systems used by hundreds of thousands of players, built entirely in-house, with real ownership over the work you deliver.

We care more about the quality of your thinking and your code than the number of years on your CV. If you've got strong fundamentals, a good eye for quality, and you're someone who makes the codebase better every time you touch it - we want to hear from you. What you'll be doing

  • Contributing to and improving tombola's platform codebases
  • Participating in agile processes - standups, sprint planning, backlog grooming
  • Delivering solutions through PRs, pair programming, and collaborative code reviews
  • Debugging and resolving issues across our applications
  • Monitoring logs, metrics and application health
  • Analysing requirements and creating prototypes for new features
  • Supporting other teams to debug and fix deployed applications
  • Investigating and resolving performance issues
  • Sharing what you learn - documentation, knowledge sharing, and all

Requirements

Skills over experience - but here's what we'd love to see:

  • Around 2-3 years of development experience (or equivalent ability)
  • Strong C# skills - this is our primary language on platform
  • Good understanding of unit and integration testing, and why it matters
  • Ability to write clean, robust, testable code in backend environments
  • Comfortable working in a large codebase within an agile team
  • Great communication - with technical and non-technical colleagues alike

Nice to haves

  • Experience with legacy .NET frameworks
  • SQL knowledge
  • Experience working across both backend and frontend

About the company

tombola is one of the UK's biggest bingo sites - and we build everything ourselves. That means you'll be working on systems that genuinely matter, with a team that cares about doing things well. Technology decisions are never top-down here. You'll have a real voice, real autonomy, and real opportunities to grow - whether that's through training, conferences, or simply working alongside people who love what they do. Take a look at our benefits on our careers site. Spoiler: the food is very good.
