Job description

As a Software Engineer at Planerio, you will play a key role in building and evolving our core platform. You will work on cloud-native services, take ownership of existing systems, and continuously improve them - from refactoring and modernization to reducing technical debt.

You will be part of a collaborative, agile team, working closely with backend and frontend engineers as well as cross-functional stakeholders to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.

Build, maintain, and evolve backend services using Kotlin/Java and Spring Boot, including taking ownership of existing systems and driving their continuous improvement (maintenance, refactoring, modernization). Design and develop robust REST APIs, ensuring proper versioning, documentation, and seamless integration with multiple clients and services. Work with relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and ORM frameworks (JPA/Hibernate), handling schema evolution and performance considerations. Ensure high code quality through automated testing, code reviews, and strong engineering practices, while contributing to the full CI/CD lifecycle (build, deployment, configuration, and operations in AWS). Collaborate closely within the team, support and mentor junior developers, and actively contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Requirements

5+ years of experience in backend web development, with strong hands-on expertise in Kotlin and/or Java with Spring Boot in production environments. Proven ability to work with and evolve existing systems, combined with solid experience in API design (REST), system integration, and working with relational databases and ORMs (e.g., MySQL, JPA/Hibernate). Experience writing testable code, implementing automated tests, and working with CI/CD pipelines as well as deploying and operating services in AWS. Strong engineering mindset with a focus on clean code, code reviews, and pragmatic documentation, paired with a collaborative, team-oriented approach and mentoring experience. Fluent English and the ability to work effectively in an agile, cross-functional environment.

Nice to Have / Strong Plus: Basic frontend knowledge (React & TypeScript) and willingness to contribute occasionally (e.g., bug fixes, small features). Experience running services on AWS ECS, including request-triggered or task-based workloads. Familiarity with Python for internal tools, scripts, or lightweight services. Experience working across multiple services and clients. Interest in AI and actively using it as a tool in your daily work. Experience with event-driven architectures or messaging systems (e.g., Kafka). Background in B2B and/or SaaS environments. German language skills. DAS ERWARTET DICH In addition, we offer all our employees a wide range of benefits and opportunities to combine professional and private life
