Job description
As a Data Scientist for Product Sustainability, you will be the key architect of data-driven transparency for our environmental footprint. Your mission is to translate high-level ambitions-such as Net Zero emissions and waste reduction-into measurable, automated, and scalable data products. Reporting to the Chapter Lead Compliance Operations, you will bridge the gap between Global Sustainability Experts and our IT/ERP backbone, ensuring that product-level environmental data is "fit-for-purpose" and actionable for Senior Management, R&D, and Manufacturing.
Your Impact & Responsibilities
Data Discovery & Exploration: Proactively identify and map required data points across the Roche ERP backbone (SAP) and global systems. This includes transforming unstructured information into structured relational data to ensure data integrity for sustainability modeling.
Infrastructure Design: Design and build robust integrated databases and automated pipelines, establishing logical schemas that enable consistent global reporting and decision-making.
Environmental Modeling: Develop advanced methods to consolidate diverse data sources to measure CO2 emissions, energy usage, and waste metrics at a global product level.
Technical Leadership: Act as the technical lead for Sustainability Tooling . Automate product "scoring" and creatively merge sustainability with compliance data to enable Lifecycle Assessments (LCAs).
Strategic Collaboration: Partner with Global IT, the Data Office, and Manufacturing to align sustainability data products with Roche's broader digital architecture using an Agile framework.
Requirements
We are looking for someone who is passionate about using data to drive environmental change and who thrives in complex, collaborative environments.
Experience: 5+ years of experience in data-heavy roles. You have a proven ability to influence stakeholders and translate complex business needs into technical specifications.
Technical Expertise: Expert proficiency in SQL and Python/R, with hands-on experience in Cloud Data Warehousing (Snowflake/AWS) and building ETL/ELT pipelines.
Data Storytelling: Skilled in Tableau (or similar visualization tools) with the ability to transform complex metrics into compelling narratives that drive action.
Mindset: You have a strong "Data Scout" mindest and excel at navigating complex corporate data landscapes and act as a bridge between Sustainability Experts and Data Engineers. You are comfortable working in Agile environments.
Academic Background: University degree (Master's or PhD) in a quantitative field (Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or similar).
