Job description
We are seeking a passionate and experienced R&D Embedded Systems Engineer to drive products and innovations from prototype to production. You will be based in our Sheffield office, working alongside other R&D scientists and engineers. You will be responsible for developing a range of exciting and innovative embedded projects, from firmware and hardware integration to real-time system solutions. You will be an essential member of the R&D team, delivering cutting-edge engineering projects, pioneering industry-leading technology, and working in an agile, multi-skilled environment, while ensuring compliance with customer, industry, and regulatory requirements. You will also attend industry-specific conferences to stay at the forefront of embedded technology, expanding your knowledge of the challenges our customers face and exploring how we can provide innovative solutions., * Execution of technical tasks in a deadline-orientated manner.
- Working in partnership with the wider R&D team to define requirements specifications for new embedded firmware development.
- Developing and implementing new embedded firmware solutions in line with product requirements.
- Taking ownership of the design and development of new electronic hardware and firmware solutions, working with other team members to manage integration, collaborate on problem-solving and provide mutual peer review.
- Carrying out testing and evaluation activities to ensure robust and comprehensive hardware and firmware solutions.
- Carrying out engineering work in line with company procedures based on industry-recognised quality standards.
- Supporting other engineers and collaborating to create a cohesive design.
- Applying proper project management processes and completing documentary records for safekeeping and traceability.
- Providing support for existing embedded firmware as part of the product lifecycle

Requirements
- At least five years of relevant industry experience working in a research and development team.
- Undergraduate degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Physics, Embedded Systems or equivalent.
- Experience in embedded programming using C or a similar programming language.
- Experience in electronic/scientific instrumentation design, prototyping and bench testing.
- Excellent communication skills and experience working well in a multi-skilled team.
- Excellent ability to prioritise tasks and manage time to meet project needs.
Desirable
- Experience working with STM32/ARM microcontroller systems.
- Knowledge of nuclear physics concepts and common radiation detector instrumentation design.
- Knowledge of IPC standards.
- Knowledge of simulation techniques for electronics design.
- Full driving license.
