Software Engineer

Within Azure Data, the big data analytics team provides a range of products that enable data engineers and data scientists to extract intelligence from all data - structured, semi-structured, and unstructured. We build the Data Engineering, Data Science, and Data Integration pillars of Microsoft Fabric.

As a Software Engineer in the Data Engineering team, you will contribute to the cloud infrastructure and large-scale distributed systems that enable the Spark experience in Microsoft Fabric as well as Microsoft's Cosmos Analytics big data platform.

• Develop, test, and maintain features in distributed services and cloud infrastructure that support large-scale analytics workloads, following established design patterns and engineering standards.
• Write well-tested, maintainable code leveraging AI tools and participate in code reviews.
• Learn and apply best practices for performance, reliability, and secure development.
• Participate in on-call rotations, investigate live-site issues, apply fixes, and improve service reliability through bug fixes, instrumentation, and automation.
• Work closely with peers, senior engineers, PMs, and partner teams to deliver features, review designs and code, and integrate with shared platform components.

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

• This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience designing, building, and operating scalable distributed systems.
• Experience with modern infrastructure development practices such as Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, DevOps, and/or Platform Engineering.
• Experience with Azure, AWS, or other cloud computing platforms.
• Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools during the software development lifecycle.
