Job description
In this role, you will design, build, and maintain end-to-end infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments, ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, and aligned with business and technical requirements. You will take ownership of architecture design models, guiding delivery teams through implementation while ensuring consistency with enterprise standards and best practices.
You will also play a key role in maintaining infrastructure performance and stability, proactively monitoring systems, supporting incident resolution, and contributing to continuous improvement. Working closely with stakeholders, you will provide technical assurance, participate in governance processes, and ensure all designs reflect current and target state environments.

Lead & design end-to-end infrastructure architecture for cloud and hybrid systems

Produce & maintain high- and low-level design documentation

Guide & support infrastructure build, provisioning, and configuration activities

Enable & promote Infrastructure as Code (IaC) best practices

Monitor & optimise infrastructure performance, capacity, and availability

Maintain & update architecture diagrams and design artefacts

Support & resolve incidents, including root cause analysis

Ensure & uphold security, compliance, and governance standards

Contribute to architecture reviews, decision-making, and change control
Requirements
You should bring strong experience in infrastructure architecture across cloud and on-premises environments, with the ability to design scalable, resilient systems and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. A solid understanding of governance, performance management, and modern infrastructure tooling is essential.

Proven experience designing and maintaining infrastructure architecture

Strong ability to produce high-quality architecture documentation

Experience with scalable, highly available system design

Ability to manage infrastructure performance, capacity, and availability

Strong stakeholder communication and decision-making skills

Experience with Kubernetes (including VKS)

Familiarity with security, compliance, and governance frameworks
Desirable:

Experience within Defence environments

Exposure to hybrid or multi-cloud architectures

Participation in architecture boards or governance forums

Cloud certifications

Automation experience using Ansible

Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This position will be based on site near Chippenham 5 days a week.
