Job description

Join Barclays as a Java Developer, where you will design, develop, and enhance high-performance connectivity applications for the Prime Derivative Services business, which covers Futures and Options trading globally. The Connectivity applications are built on Java and they are designed to provide low-latency, high throughput processing of messages. In this role, you will help deliver robust business, platform, and technology capabilities that support our customers and colleagues across critical financial systems., To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues., * Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.

  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will bring knowledge of financial protocols such as FIX, along with hands-on experience developing and running Java applications in Linux environments, including server monitoring and resource utilisation analysis. A strong understanding of memory management, caching, networking, distributed systems, multi-threading, algorithms, and operating systems will be highly beneficial.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Experience of Core Java
  • Experience with systems providing trading, risk, middle office, or other financial services
  • Experience with scripting: bash, python

Additional highly valued skills include:

  • Knowledge of FIX, or other financial protocols
  • Expertise of developing/running Java applications under Linux including server monitoring and resource utilisation analysis
  • Familiarity with memory management, caching, networking, distributed systems, multi-threading, algorithms and/or operating systems
  • Experience with production support
