It's an exciting time to join the Marketing Team at Newcastle University. We have a new opportunity to join our dynamic and innovative Web Development Team. Reporting in to the Web Development Manager, our Front-end Web Developer will be joining a specialist team, with the opportunity to advance and grow your web development skills.
As a Front-end Developer, you will be responsible for implementing visual elements that users see and interact with within a web application.
Your role is integral to the Web Development Team, who are our tech leaders for front-end website maintenance and development. The team works to translate visual design into something functional and productive, ensuring our technical systems and tools support and enable our web estate.

Your role is integral to the Web Development team, who are our tech leaders for front-end website maintenance and development. The team works to translate visual design into something functional and productive, ensuring our technical systems and tools support and enable our web estate., Newcastle University is open to consider flexible working arrangements, we promote hybrid working conditions where able to with a minumum expectation of 3 working days on campus arrangement in place., * Reporting to the Web Development Manager help maintain the University's web presence and other digital products, with particular attention to accessibility and browser/device compatibility
- To work with the colleagues across the organisation to design, test, iterate, and develop new components for the University's digital design system and web templates
- To build and maintain reusable code libraries for sustainable future use
- Contribute to the development teams testing and quality assurance processes. Maintain the application documentation to enable handover to other members of the team
- To technically optimise digital channels for better performance and improve SEO and accessibility across the web estate
- Assist in reporting on and ensuring that all developments meet WCAG 2.1 AA or AAA accessibility standards
- Other duties as required to support marketing website development as required by the Head of Web, CRM and Analytics and the Web Development Team Leader
Requirements
- Practiced knowledge of HTML, SCSS/CSS, JavaScript (ES6), jQuery and modern responsive web design principles within a professional environment
- Good working knowledge of best practice and trends in CRO, UX and Web development and design (User-centred design, Quality Assurance processes, Software Development lifecycle, Agile development, CI/CD processes and website development best practices (DRY, SOLID, OOP)
- A keen desire to continuously develop your skills and keep up to date with various technologies, frameworks, platforms, methodologies, and processes
- Good knowledge of working with Version Control systems (Git/GitHub)
- Strong time management and administrative skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, * Generates a range of viable options and decides on an appropriate course of action that best fits organisational and area goals

Benefits & conditions
Salary: £32,080 to £33,002 with progression to £34,610 per annum
