Job description
Treat Platform as a Product. Move beyond "managing servers" to evolve our Internal Developer Platform alongside Infrastructure, DevEx, and Security teams.
- Customer Obsession: Treat internal engineers as your customers, identifying pain points, building self-service capabilities, and measuring adoption to solve for true customer value.
- Abstract Complexity: Develop platform APIs and connectors that handle the heavy lifting, enabling engineers to focus entirely on product delivery.
Architect a future-proof Cloud Estate. You will own and evolve our production AWS infrastructure using Terraform. We treat infrastructure as software, with version control, code review, and automated testing. You will lead the way in provisioning the specialised infrastructure required for GenAI workloads, such as vector databases and Model Context Protocols (MCPs)., * Months 1-2, Get to know the team and infrastructure landscape. Ship your first Terraform module and contribute to our observability instrumentation.
Requirements
You should be genuinely curious about how AI is reshaping software development, comfortable adopting new tools as they emerge, and excited about the idea that infrastructure and platform work will look meaningfully different in two years than it does today., * Software Fundamentals: You have 5+ years of professional experience, primarily as a software engineer, before gravitating to infrastructure. You write clean, tested, modular code in Python, TypeScript, or Go.
- Deep AWS & Terraform Expertise: You have designed and operated production workloads on AWS (ECS, Lambda, VPC, IAM) and maintain Terraform modules as a core part of your workflow.
- CI/CD Fluency: You have hands-on experience building deployment pipelines and understand the principles of reliable, repeatable delivery.
AI Fluency & Curiosity
- You are excited about the potential of AI-assisted development to enhance velocity.
- You have a genuine interest in the engineering challenges of AI systems: context management, tool use, and making AI integrations reliable.
Operating Behaviours
- Drivers, Not Passengers: You take extreme ownership of your work, driving outcomes end-to-end while bringing others along on the journey.
- Be Decisive, Even in Ambiguity: You act with speed and treat ambiguity as an opportunity to shape outcomes. You can explain complex infrastructure trade-offs to any audience.
Strong Signals
We don't expect you to have all of these, but we are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- Platform Maturity: You have a track record of building internal developer platforms (e.g. Backstage) or self-service tooling that transformed how product teams interact with infrastructure.
- Architectural Evolution: You have successfully led the migration or refactoring of monolithic systems into modular, well-bounded services.
- Modern Observability: You have deep experience with platforms such as Datadog, Grafana, Mimir, New Relic, or OpenTelemetry, and you know how to move beyond basic metrics to actionable operational intelligence.
- Infrastructure for GenAI: You have a documented interest in the infrastructure requirements of LLM-powered applications, for example, around vector databases, GPU orchestration, or Model Context Protocols (MCPs).
- Distributed Systems: You are comfortable with containerisation (Kubernetes, Docker, ECS), serverless patterns, and event-driven architectures or data infrastructure patterns., * Months 3-4: Own the observability standardisation effort. Improve deployment pipelines and begin implementing AI-augmented security and developer tools.
- Months 5-6: Drive "Cloud Excellence" initiatives, optimizing for stability and cost. You are a trusted voice in architectural discussions and a go-to partner for product teams.
Benefits & conditions
- Time off - 27 days holiday, plus 5 additional days off: 1 life event day, 2 volunteer days, 2 company-wide wellbeing days (M-Powered Weekend) and 8 bank holidays per year
