Job description
IONOS Cloud is a machine with many moving parts. Dozens of software components work together to provide the services offered. We are establishing a new team to better support and monitor this machine and improve the existing tooling and level of automation. We primarily rely on Kubernetes operators and cloud-native software such as ArgoCD, OpenBAO, Prometheus, etc. Our own in-house developments are also common.
As with a spaceship or aeroplane, we don't just need mechanics with oil cans, but also a team of engineers who continuously improve the overall process, build new tools where necessary and provide the other teams with everything they need to do a good job make (such as customer support, product developers or operations teams).
The underlying idea and goal is to end up with a self-healing "desired state" system that is controlled via GitOps and offers all products and components uniform processes and a reusable tool landscape.
We will help other teams with this transition if necessary - including possible containerization, immutable infrastructure, idempotent interfaces, etc. The Platform Flight Engineering team will include software development, operations and infrastructure engineering. Our flight engineers will also regularly "fly" with other teams in order to better understand the engine room there.
We are looking for reinforcements for this team. You're best suited if you're proficient in IT platform operations, but fundamentally aim to build robust software agents that can handle operations on their own.
Tasks
- Developing tools for the entire lifecycle of cloud products and platforms.
- Development of Kubernetes operators for the autonomous operation of software components.
- Developing APIs, tools and components to support other teams in their work.
- Support of product platforms including on-call (of course with the aim of the software doing all the work).
- Code reviews.
- Promoting junior and advanced members of the team.
- Participation in interviews during hiring.
- Accompanying other teams in their work.
Requirements
- Sound knowledge of software development, preferably with GoLang.
- In-depth knowledge of cloud environments and Kubernetes.
- Agile mindset, experience with modern software development methods.
- Experience in operating IT platforms based on Linux and Kubernetes.
- "Show must go on" mentality.
Languages: Fluent in spoken and written English, German at B2+ level.
Benefits & conditions
- Hybrid working model.
- Flexible working hours through trust-based working hours.
- At some locations a subsidized canteen and various free drinks.
- Modern office space with very good transport connections.
- Various employee discounts for activities and products.
- Employee events such as summer and winter parties, as well as workshops.
- Numerous training and development opportunities.
- Various health offers, such as sports and health courses.
