Job description

A unique opportunity to step into a role that sits at the intersection of cloud architecture, cost optimisation, and strategic advisory within a highly secure, mission-led environment.

This position goes beyond traditional cloud engineering. The focus is on embedding cost efficiency into AWS architecture from day one, working closely with engineering teams and senior stakeholders to ensure cloud platforms are designed for both performance and value.

The role supports a large-scale business unit on its journey to the cloud, offering significant scope to influence how systems are designed, built, and optimised., * Drive AWS cost optimisation strategies across large-scale cloud environments

  • Embed FinOps principles into architecture and engineering practices
  • Partner with architects and engineers to design cost-efficient, scalable solutions
  • Provide strategic guidance to stakeholders on cloud spend and optimisation opportunities
  • Build data-driven business cases to support cloud investment decisions
  • Influence decision-making across both technical and non-technical teams

Requirements

  • Strong experience with AWS, including pricing models and cost management tools
  • Proven track record of cloud cost optimisation in production environments
  • Understanding of cloud architecture and how design decisions impact cost
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders and influencing technical direction
  • Ability to translate technical insights into commercial outcomes

Desirable:

  • Exposure to FinOps frameworks or practices
  • Experience within public sector, defence, or regulated environments

Benefits & conditions

  • Must be a sole British national (required for DV clearance)
  • Willing to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) clearance
  • Comfortable working 3 days per week onsite on average

Package & Benefits

  • Base salary: £70,000 - £90,000
