Job description
We are looking for an AI / Azure Foundry Engineer to accelerate our organisation's transition into AI-enabled smart automation. You will use Azure AI Foundry, Python, and advanced AI tooling to design intelligent automation solutions that eliminate repetitive work and improve process efficiency for our internal teams - with special focus on Payroll and Products.
Beyond project delivery, you will help shape the engineering direction, reusable patterns, and technical standards for all AI-driven automation within the Smart Automation team.
What You Will Do
AI & Azure Foundry Engineering Leadership
- Design and build automation solutions leveraging Azure AI Foundry capabilities, including model orchestration, vector search, secure prompt pipelines, and evaluation tooling
- Develop and maintain Python-based AI services integrated with Foundry workflows, AI hubs, models, and datasets
- Create reusable AI components and best-practice patterns for other squads to adopt
- Establish guidelines for prompt design, model governance, evaluation, and safe AI deployment using Azure Foundry frameworks
- Lead discussions on AI architecture, responsible AI, and performance optimisation
- Automation Delivery (Python, AI, Foundry Integration)
- Develop end-to-end intelligent automation solutions for internal customers, focusing on high-frequency, high-effort repetitive processes
Leverage Azure AI Foundry to build solutions such as:
- Intelligent document understanding
- Natural language processing workflows
- Agentic automation
- Retrieval-augmented automation (RAA / RAG)
- Integrate AI solutions with enterprise systems through secure APIs, microservices, and Python automation scripts
- Build pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, embeddings, and vector search
Collaboration & Partner Engagement
- Partner closely with Payroll and Product SMEs to assess processes and identify AI automation opportunities
- Translate business challenges into clear technical requirements and AI solution designs
- Communicate AI concepts, limitations, risks, and value clearly to non-technical audiences
- Work collaboratively with other engineers in Smart Automation to ensure consistency in solution design and standards
Reliability, Governance & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure solutions follow engineering best practices: version control, testing, observability, monitoring, and secure development
- Participate in post-incident reviews and embed learnings into AI architectural patterns
- Advocate modern engineering practices such as model evaluation, telemetry, traceability, and responsible AI
- Continuously scan emerging Azure Foundry features and AI capabilities and recommend safe adoption paths, * Unit tests written alongside code; solutions deployed with observability and monitoring configured from day one
- Secrets and credentials stored exclusively in Azure Key Vault - never in source code or pipeline variables
- All Azure service-to-service calls authenticated via Managed Identity (Zero Trust)
- AI solutions deployed with Content Safety, grounding checks, and responsible AI guardrails applied before Staging or Prod
Collaboration Standards
- Actively engage with Payroll and Product SMEs to validate AI solution designs before build commences
- Communicate clearly and honestly about AI limitations, risks, and confidence levels - especially to non-technical partners
- Share reusable components, patterns, and learnings with the broader Smart Automation team
- Raise blockers and risks early; do not allow work to stall past the midpoint of a sprint without escalation
Requirements
-
Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science or a related technical discipline
-
Software Engineer professional experience at least 6 years
-
Demonstrable experience delivering AI or machine learning solutions in a production or enterprise environment at least 3 years
-
Proven experience with Azure AI Foundry or comparable Azure AI/ML platform services
