The Solution Architecture Practice Lead drives solution architecture across Primark, providing strategic direction, thought leadership, and mentorship to architects. Partnering with business and technology leaders, the role ensures scalable, high-quality solutions aligned to business goals, while managing capability development, resource allocation, and delivery excellence within the practice.
What You'll Do as the Solution Architecture Practice Lead

- Lead and evolve the Solution Architecture practice, defining standards, frameworks, patterns, and reference architectures aligned to Primark's technology strategy.
- Provide strategic direction, mentorship, and governance to solution architects, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and compliant solutions.
- Drive reuse through composable architecture by identifying, documenting, and promoting shared components, patterns, and techniques.
- Own architectural risks and issues across delivery lifecycles, working with business and technology teams to ensure successful outcomes.
- Oversee solution architecture resources (internal and external), optimising allocation, utilisation, and delivery effectiveness.
- Champion innovation by leading solution reviews, proof-of-concepts, and technology adoption based on industry trends and best practices.
Requirements
- Proven senior solution architecture leader with a strong track record delivering complex, enterprise-scale solutions and leading high-performing architecture teams.
- Deep expertise in solution architecture principles, modern software architectures (microservices, APIs, cloud, data), and industry best practices, with hands-on design experience.
- Trusted advisor with excellent communication and influencing skills, able to build senior business relationships and shape technology and business strategy.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capability, balancing innovation with business performance and operational excellence.
- Demonstrated people leadership experience, including resource management, performance optimisation, talent development, and succession planning.
- Thrives in fast-paced, changing environments; highly organised, detail-oriented, and accountable, with the ability to prioritise and deliver to high standards.
- Collaborative, customer-centric, and values-driven leader with high integrity, emotional intelligence, and a genuine passion for the Primark brand and retail/fashion domain.
