Job description
The Technical Operations & Systems Lead will take full ownership of the organisation's technology stack, systems architecture, integrations, security posture, and automation workflows across The Surgical Consortium. This role replaces the day-to-day technical responsibilities currently performed by the CIO and ensures the business continues to scale with robust, secure, and efficient digital infrastructure.
The role blends hands-on technical engineering, solution architecture, vendor management, and operational leadership. The successful candidate will design, implement, and oversee secure digital workflows supporting NHS and private healthcare operations, workforce management, referral intake, patient pathways, financial processes, and internal productivity systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Systems Architecture & Ownership

Oversee and evolve the entire Microsoft 365 environment - SharePoint architecture, Teams governance, OneDrive structure, Entra ID identity/access management.

Manage Azure workloads (serverless compute, containerised workflows, automation accounts, API hosting).

Own domain/security stack (DNS, DKIM, SPF, DMARC, MTA-STS).

Maintain company-wide data structures ensuring scalability, security, and compliance.
- Automation & Integration Engineering
-
Build and maintain workflow automation using Make.com, Monday.com, and API-based integrations.

Maintain and extend integrations with:

Make.com (Value stream design, APIs, webhooks, AI Agents, MCP Server)
-
Monday.com (API, webhooks, custom fields, automation logic)
-
NHS Digital services (e.g., NHS Login integration, DSPT compliance workflows)
-
AWS workflows (Lambda/ECS for document conversion, Secrets Manager for secure storage)

Stripe + FreeAgent automated finance workflows
-
Landbot used for patient booking & enquiries.

Troubleshoot and optimise JSON payloads, API calls, schema design, and webhook handling.
- Security, Compliance & Governance

Ensure compliance with:

DSP Toolkit
-
ISO standards (27001)
-
NHS IG requirements for referral handling

Information Sharing Agreements & DPIA implications (especially around Monday.com and patient data)

Maintain secure access controls, audit logging, SSO, MFA enforcement, and best practices across all platforms.
- Technical Leadership & Support
-
Serve as the organisation's technical lead for new projects, digital tenders, and operational expansions.

Support clinical operations teams with system design and workflow optimisation.

Provide hands-on troubleshooting for integrations, authentication problems, data sync issues, and platform bugs.

Work with vendors (Microsoft, Monday.com, Make.com, AWS, Zoom, NHS Digital, Focus Group) to resolve issues and plan upgrades.
- AI & Digital Innovation

Oversee deployment and maintenance of:

AI voice agents for booking/triage
-
AI assistants used in business development and tender drafting
-
Automation-powered transcription, document classification, and patient communications.

Evaluate new technologies and lead digital transformation initiatives that reduce manual workload and improve accuracy.
- Operational IT Management

Manage hardware/software procurement, licensing, access provisioning, and lifecycle management.

Ensure data backups, DR planning, and business continuity capabilities.

Coordinate with outsourced partners when required.
Requirements
-
Strong background in systems engineering, cloud platforms, and solution architecture.

Solid experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, and Entra ID.

Advanced experience with integration platforms (Make.com or equivalent).
-
Solid experience with AI/LLM integration, prompt engineering, and voice AI agents.

Proficiency with APIs, JSON, REST webhooks, OAuth2, and authentication flows.

Experience with workflow automation, business systems, and healthcare data flows.
-
Familiarity with NHS IG, DPIAs, data sharing agreements, and handling of sensitive clinical data.

Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage complex multi-system architectures with high reliability.
Desirable Skills

Experience with scripting (Python/JS/PowerShell).

Experience managing secure cloud workloads (AWS and/or Azure).

Experience with container orchestration (ECS/EKS/Azure Container Apps).

Working knowledge of finance/system integrations (Stripe, FreeAgent).

Experience supporting clinical operations or regulated healthcare environments.

Pay: £55,000.00-£105,000.00 per year
