Job description

We are seeking a dynamic Lead Test Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will own and evolve the Playwright UI automation suite, expanding coverage across critical user journeys and high-risk areas. You will design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable Playwright-based automated tests, ensuring reliability and maintainability., * Own and evolve the Playwright UI automation suite, expanding coverage across critical user journeys and high-risk areas.

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable Playwright-based automated tests, following best practices for reliability and maintainability.
  • Improve automation quality including reducing flaky tests and strengthening reporting/observability of failures.
  • Define and drive the test approach for new functionality and components, including services and integrations.
  • Collaborate with developers and QA to ensure testability is built into delivery.
  • Integrate and optimise automated testing within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Assist in defect triage and support timely resolution by providing clear evidence and technical insight.
  • Mentor and support manual QA testers as they progress towards automation.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation and standards that enable consistent delivery across the team.
  • Proactively identify gaps and propose improvements across the wider quality approach.

Requirements

  • Proven experience building and maintaining test automation in modern software delivery environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Playwright and automated UI testing, including patterns for maintainable test suites.
  • Solid understanding of testing strategy and balancing UI, API/service, and integration testing.
  • experience working with CI/CD pipelines, ideally Azure DevOps.
  • Comfortable testing systems built on a .NET Back End and JavaScript-based Front End.
  • experience testing APIs and service components, including serverless such as Azure Functions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to drive improvements that reduce repeat issues.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, able to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • experience coaching or leading within a QA/testing function and influencing quality practices across a delivery team., * experience with performance testing, cross-browser strategies, test data management, and/or test reporting dashboards.
  • Familiarity with test management tools and structured defect/quality metrics.
  • Optional: Familiarity with leveraging AI-assisted tools to accelerate test development and improve automation capability.
