Job description
Yellow-SiC is building early-stage prototyping and testing capabilities around 3C-SiC-based photocatalysis and photoelectrochemistry. After demonstrating our proof of concept at the lab scale, we are now looking to translate that success into a commercially viable module. We are looking for an R&D Prototype Engineer - Photocatalysis/PEC Systems who can translate material concepts into testable hardware and use engineering simulations to improve design choices before fabrication and experimental evaluation. The role combines practical prototype integration with simulation-supported engineering judgment. You will work with other engineers and scientists to create systems, fixtures, and interface concepts that can move efficiently into design-build-test loops. What you will do
- define device architecture options
- translate material samples into testable prototype concepts
- develop concepts for fixtures, holders, cell assemblies, and interfaces for early test hardware
- create engineering multiphysics models that support prototype decisions
- use simulation results to narrow design options before fabrication
- coordinate with workshop and glass support teams on practical build execution
- support regular design-build-test loops by improving hardware between test rounds
- troubleshoot prototype performance and propose focused design changes, * a hands-on role with visible impact on the emerging technology of solar water splitting
- development opportunities in a young, fast-growing company
- room to take ownership in an environment where initiative is encouraged and rewarded
- stimulating and rewarding work at the overlap of applied science, engineering and data
- close collaboration across materials, testing, and engineering, with fast feedback between design and experiment
- short decision paths and visible contribution to real product and prototype progress
- office drinks and snacks
- job ticket for commuting to our office in Adlershof
- regular company events
Requirements
- you have a background in mechanical engineering, chemical or process engineering, engineering physics, or a similar field
- strong practical engineering ability in prototype development, device integration, or experimental hardware
- experience with multiphysics simulation tools (e.g. COMSOL, Ansys) relevant to reactor, electrochemical, thermal, optical, or fluid-flow problems
- experience with CAD and 3D design software
- ability to connect models to real design decisions
- comfort with ambiguity, early-stage prototyping, and iterative troubleshooting
- ability to work across design, fabrication support, and test feedback
- hands-on, curious, and comfortable working in a startup environment with evolving priorities
- good English and German communication skills, * experience with photocatalysis, (photo)electrochemistry, electrolysis or reactor design
- familiarity with MATLAB or Python
- experience with 3D-printing, CNC and other R&D manufacturing methods
- experience working in small R&D teams where role boundaries are fluid
