Job description

The Head of Data and Information will lead the continued development of the data and information team. This team provides data and analysis for all internal and external reports relating to admissions, recruitment, student performance and institutional/departmental KPIs.

They are also responsible for ensuring an appropriate flow of high-quality Management Information across the organisation, mainly through outstanding use of Power BI dashboards, ensuring that data becomes information.

ROLE and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide regular and accurate Management Information on student numbers, applications, student continuation and completion, student performance and student engagement metrics.

  • Provide timely reports on outcomes of the various student satisfaction surveys (module evaluations, NSS etc.)

  • Provide data and analysis of recruitment, admissions and student performance data to support the writing of all internal and external reports.

  • Ensure that all data and presentational requirements of partner institutions are fully conformed with.

  • Provide assurance on all student related data held by the organisation, ensuring that the Data and Information section is the sole authoritative source for data in the organisation.

  • Apply appropriate statistical techniques and modelling methodologies to allow deep understanding of our data and identification of trends that might be present.

  • Develop useful data dashboards for all staff, including tracking of performance KPIs.

  • Present data and analysis to internal audiences as required.

  • Work with colleagues in Student Records and other stakeholders to ensure that student / staff data is interpreted correctly and in a timely manner, and to promote data quality.

  • Develop appropriate and robust data capture methods.

  • Provide student number reports and forecasts to aid other key statutory returns and planning requirements- e.g. OfS Access and Participation Plan, OfS five year forecasts, space requirements etc.

  • Provide support to committees and boards as required.

  • Develop and maintain clear documentation of all processes undertaken by the section.

  • Liaise with external bodies as required

  • Deliver enhancement projects in relation to BI, data quality or other strategic requirements.

  • Deal with ad-hoc requests for data and analysis, including assisting in preparing presentations for a range of audiences.

  • To ensure that Data security permissions and controls are applied, monitored and in line with relevant organisational policies and procedures

Requirements

Do you have experience in Statistical analysis?, * A degree, preferably in a numerate subject

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role in Higher Education

  • Knowledge of statutory reporting in Higher Education environment and experience of producing such reports

  • Knowledge of advanced Excel for reporting, dash-boarding and modelling

  • Knowledge of a range of statistical techniques and their application

  • Knowledge of statutory reporting requirements in Higher Education.

  • Experience of effective cross-departmental working to deliver business solutions

  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to stick to deadlines

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Evidence of creativity in data presentation

  • Experience of leading and managing large teams

  • Demonstrable experience of effective stakeholder management at all levels
