Job description

Autodesk is seeking a Senior Cloud Developer to join a product engineering team building customer-facing cloud capabilities. This position is based in Sheffield (UK) with a hybrid working model (1-2 days per week in the office).

In this role, you will design, build, and operate modern cloud-based features and services. You will contribute across the full software lifecycle-from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on development, values strong engineering fundamentals, and can balance delivery speed with reliability, security, and performance. You will collaborate closely with product managers, architects, UX, and partner teams to translate high-level requirements into incremental, customer-facing releases.

You will report to an Engineering Manager and work within an established agile team in a global environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain cloud-native product features and service components that are reliable, secure, scalable, and performant
  • Translate product requirements into well-defined technical tasks and deliver incremental, production-ready features
  • Develop and evolve versioned REST APIs, including authentication, authorization, validation, error handling, and backward compatibility
  • Write clean, maintainable code and actively contribute to code reviews, technical discussions, and architecture decisions
  • Develop and maintain automated tests, and improve CI/CD pipelines to enable safe and frequent releases
  • Operate production services using observability best practices (logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, alerts) to monitor and troubleshoot issues
  • Participate in incident response and post-incident improvements to enhance reliability and operational maturity
  • Work with relational and NoSQL data stores, making pragmatic decisions around schema design, access patterns, and performance
  • Collaborate effectively with engineering, product, UX, support, and operations teams across multiple time zones
  • Leverage modern AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve productivity, code quality, and operational effectiveness

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Proven experience building and operating cloud services or backend applications in production environments
  • Strong proficiency in at least one of: C#, TypeScript, or Python, with willingness to learn additional languages
  • Experience designing and building REST APIs for cloud-based applications
  • Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP, including core services (compute, networking, IAM, storage)
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and familiarity with NoSQL or object storage (e.g., DynamoDB, S3)
  • Experience with Git-based workflows, code reviews, and CI/CD practices
  • Understanding of observability practices (logging, metrics, tracing, alerting) for production systems
  • Experience working within Agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to take ownership and operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment, * 5+ years of industry experience in software engineering, cloud development, or backend services
  • Experience delivering customer-facing features within a cloud product team
  • Experience improving service reliability, scalability, latency, security, or cost efficiency
  • Experience with containers and modern deployment patterns
  • Experience enhancing automated test coverage and release quality
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code and cloud automation tools
  • Experience working in distributed, international teams

The Ideal Candidate

You are a hands-on cloud developer who enjoys building product functionality-not just infrastructure-and is comfortable owning work from design through production.

You combine strong technical skills with sound engineering judgment, making practical trade-offs that balance customer value, service quality, and delivery speed. You are collaborative, curious, and proactive, communicating clearly and surfacing risks early.

You care about maintainability and operational excellence, and take pride in continuously improving systems-whether by delivering new features, reducing technical debt, or enhancing reliability and ease of operation.

Benefits & conditions

Salary is one part of Autodesk's competitive compensation package. Offers are based on the candidate's experience and geographic location. In addition to base salaries, our compensation package may include annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
