Job description

Aistech Space is looking for a Scientist in Maritime Remote Sensing to lead the development and deployment of Machine Learning (ML) models focused on maritime applications using earth observation data in our Remote Sensing Team.

You will be responsible for creating image processing chains, integrating external data, and developing models for vessel detection and maritime security. You will collaborate closely with data scientists and software developers to transition these models and derived products from prototype to seamless deployment, integrating them into internal tools, applications, operational products, and onboard satellite systems.

The daily tasks to be achieved in this position are:

  • Integrate and deploy Machine Learning (ML) models, specifically including YOLO and Random Forest models.
  • Develop and maintain robust image processing chains for VIS, NIR, and Thermal Infrared (TIR) bands to create ML-ready datasets.
  • Develop, update, and maintain ML models, specifically focusing on vessel detection and other applications pertinent to maritime navigation and security.
  • Develop tools and automated pipelines for continuous model validation, monitoring, versioning, and retraining.
  • Collaborate with data scientists to move ML models from prototype to deployment, and with software developers to embed models into user-facing applications and internal tools.
  • Utilize expertise in geospatial data analytics to process imaging products, integrating external data (such as AIS) to enhance detection models and automate processing.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for deployment pipelines and operational models.

Requirements

  • BSc/MSc in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Physics, Mathematics or relevant degree.
  • Experience in working with remote sensing data in the thermal infrared region (e.g. Landsat, Aster, Sentinel-3, MODIS,...) (+3 years)
  • Experience in geospatial image processing using Python/R/Javascript (+3 years)
  • Experience with vessel detection or marine applications using remote sensing technologies. (+ 3 years)
  • Proficiency in processing Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data, including platforms like Sentinel-1.
  • Knowledge of data structures to accommodate both vector and raster geospatial datasets into ingestion pipelines for a geospatial platform.
  • Fluency in English.

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL database technologies.
  • Knowledge of APIs for data acquisition and data dissemination.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies.
