Job description

As a Senior Solution Architect in IBM Consulting, you'll help define the technology direction for our enterprise clients. Working closely with stakeholders and delivery teams, you'll turn business needs into clear, scalable solution designs across cloud, data, integration and AI.

You'll be part of a technology-driven consulting and engineering organization that delivers high-quality cloud, platform and AI solutions. Our teams blend deep technical expertise with strong consulting skills to design, implement and evolve modern digital architectures.

In this role, you'll shape the technical vision, support teams throughout implementation and ensure that the solutions we deliver are both practical and ready for what comes next. We value people who take ownership, enjoy solving complex problems and thrive in a collaborative, consulting-focused environment.

Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead customer workshops, consult stakeholders, and translate business needs into technical solutions
  • Create and maintain architecture documentation following Arc42 standards
  • Guide development teams in applying modern SDLC, DevOps, and GitOps practices
  • Ensure architectural quality regarding security, performance, reliability and maintainability
  • Contribute to solution designs involving GenAI, RAG pipelines and MCP server/client architectures
  • Support agile delivery teams (Scrum or SAFe) with architectural governance and hands-on technical expertise
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, product owners and management to drive technical strategy

What we offer:

  • Individual career path
  • Access to countless trainings and certification offerings
  • A knowledge sharing culture
  • An environment where you are actively contributing your ideas
  • The possibility to work in projects in one of the largest IT companies

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics or a related field
  • 3-5+ years as Solution Architect (cloud & microservices focus) plus solid engineering background (7+ years in software development)
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS or Red Hat ecosystem and cloud-native architecture patterns
  • Proven experience designing and implementing microservices-based solutions
  • Solid understanding of SDLC, DevOps and GitOps practices (e.g. CI/CD, ArgoCD, Tekton)
  • Experience with container platforms (OpenShift or similar) and infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform)
  • Strong background in architecture documentation (e.g. Arc42) and client-facing solution design
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Fluent German and English - written & spoken (at least C1 level)
  • Swiss nationality or valid Swiss work permit / EU passport

Preferred technical and professional experience

  • Experience in consulting environments and stakeholder management in complex organizations
  • Hands-on experience with modern frameworks and technologies (e.g. Spring, Quarkus, Kafka, React/Angular)
  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk)
  • Knowledge of security best practices (OWASP, API security, secure architecture design)
  • Exposure to GenAI tools and concepts (e.g. RAG, GitHub Copilot, LLM-based solutions)
  • Experience working with agile methodologies (Scrum, SAFe) and related certifications
  • Experience with configuration management and automation tools (e.g. Ansible, Helm)
  • Consulting mindset with the ability to build trust and manage stakeholder expectations
  • Proactive problem-solver with strong analytical thinking
  • Ability to lead discussions, challenge assumptions, and drive well-founded architectural decisions
  • Team-oriented and comfortable working in interdisciplinary environments
