Software Engineer

An experienced Senior Software Engineer is required to support the delivery of a central government compensation service. This role is primarily backend-focused, with some frontend responsibilities, and requires strong Java expertise within a modern microservices architecture., * Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services

• Build and enhance microservices deployed via containerisation
• Contribute to frontend components where required using lightweight frameworks
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment
• Ensure code quality through best practices, testing, and peer reviews
• Support continuous improvement of engineering standards and delivery processes

• Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot
• Proven experience building and maintaining microservices architectures
• Experience with Docker and containerised deployments
• Solid understanding of backend system design and API development
• Working knowledge of JavaScript and Node.js
• Experience building simple web frontends using templating tools such as NunJucks
• Familiarity with GDS design standards
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments

Desirable Skills

• Experience delivering services within central government or highly regulated environments
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Exposure to cloud-based infrastructure (e.g. AWS, Azure, or GCP)
