Job description
Responsible for designing, building, operating, and improving the core technology systems of organizational IT infrastructure. This role sits between hands-on operations and forward-looking engineering, with a focus on stability, scalability, security, and reliability., + Plan and implement infrastructure for servers, networks, storage, and cloud services.
- Maintain Windows/Linux servers, virtualization platforms, and identity systems.
- Support core networking services such as routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and segmentation.
- Deploy and manage cloud infrastructure (IaaS/PaaS).
- Use automation and Infrastructure-as-Code tools to standardize builds and reduce manual work.
- Work closely with security teams to implement hardening, patching, logging, and access controls.
- Support regulatory or policy requirements.
- Monitor system health and performance.
- Partner with application teams, service desk, vendors, and leadership.
- Document architectures, procedures, and standards.
- Participate in on-call rotations for critical systems.
- Perform other duties as directed., + Identity and access management concepts, including Active Directory and group policy.
- Hybrid infrastructure environments integrating on-premises systems with cloud services.
- Virtualization platforms and concepts such as high availability and resource optimization.
- Enterprise networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and firewalls.
- Systems security best practices, including patch management, access controls, logging, and monitoring.
- Backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity principles.
- Automation and scripting concepts used to standardize system configuration and deployment.
- Change management and incident response processes in production environments.
- Infrastructure monitoring and performance tuning techniques.
- Public-sector compliance, policy, and audit considerations related to IT systems.
- Vendor coordination and technical support escalation in enterprise environments.
- Technical documentation standards and knowledge-transfer practices.
Ability to:
- Analyze existing infrastructure and identify practical, cost-effective system improvements.
- Design, implement, and maintain reliable on-premises and hybrid infrastructure solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex system and network issues across multiple platforms and environments.
- Automate and standardize infrastructure processes to improve consistency and reduce operational risk.
- Communicate technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across departments.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
- Frequently bend and kneel during the shift;
- Frequently push and pull objects;
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;
- Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing;
- Place arms above, at or below shoulder height.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, or network operations, preferably in a public-sector or other regulated environment. Demonstrated experience supporting and improving Windows-based server and network infrastructure in hybrid on-premises/cloud environments. Strong understanding of enterprise networking fundamentals, virtualization, automation/scripting, and systems security best practices. Ability to work within formal change management processes, collaborate across departments, and communicate technical concepts clearly.
