Job description
This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports to a Systems Engineer Lead. You will:
- Own and develop strategy for Verification and Validation of Vehicle Systems for new and existing autonomous vehicle platforms. This includes, among other domains, Power Systems, Thermal Management, Infotainment, Networks, Body Controls, and Cybersecurity
- Plan and schedule V&V campaigns based on the scope of Requirements
- Coordinate, and supervise the verification activities for these domains (reviewing Requirements, designing Tests, and getting them executed)
- Drive alignment and test planning activities with both internal and external OEM partners to ensure efficient and effective collaboration across Waymo
- Provide technical support to Test Engineers and Test Conductors during the execution of the verification activities
- Become the point of contact and be accountable for the tests requested from Systems Engineers or Developers to test new features or detect regressions for existing ones
- Develop and execute on test automation strategy for verification corpus which effectively utilizes Waymo's suite of test environments from software-in-loop simulation to component HILs to full vehicle HILs
- Provide technical training to other Test Engineers to grow the team's skillset. For example: use of test equipment, analysis tools, test methodologies, or Scripting languages
- Lead the qualification of new Waymo driver SW releases for the Vehicle Test Engineering team
Requirements
- Project management. Ability to understand the scope of work, available resources and timeline, and translate it into schedules. Being able to make and communicate trade-offs between program conflicts
- Excellent communication, coordination and collaboration skills. Being able to support the execution of multiple tests activities in parallel
- Test planning and experimental design, especially designing for safety and repeatability
- Data analysis and test scripting/automation experience (C/C+, Python, Matlab/Simulink)
- Bachelor and/or Master's degree in a relevant engineering or a related field (including ME, EE, CS, Robotics, Controls, Aerospace, etc.) or equivalent practical experience
We prefer:
- Electromechanical systems: design, build, and troubleshoot systems that combine HW, electrical systems, communications, and software
- Understanding of systems engineering principles such as defining requirements and formal verification and validation methods
- Database analysis in SQL or similar
Travel Requirement:
- 10% Travel time
