Job description
We are seeking a freelance data engineer to support the development of our AI/data platform. You will work alongside our internal engineering team, reporting to our CTO and collaborating with lead engineers. This role is critical to building scalable backend systems and ensuring seamless integration of our platform with client environments.
Requirements
- 5+ years in software engineering with 2+ years focused on AI/ML systems in production (not just notebooks and prototypes - deployed, monitored, maintained)
- Deep experience with LLM orchestration, prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS, or similar), and agent frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, or custom)
- Strong Python - this is a Python-primary codebase for the intelligence layer
- Experience building data pipelines that ingest, normalize, and transform data from multiple enterprise sources at scale
- Can evaluate tradeoffs between AI approaches (when to use retrieval vs. fine-tuning vs. structured extraction vs. agent reasoning) and make defensible technical decisions, * Experience with Azure AI services specifically (Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Azure ML, Azure AI Foundry)
- Knowledge graph or graph database experience (Neo4j, Amazon Neptune, or similar temporal graph systems)
- Experience with Azure Synapse, Databricks, or Spark for large-scale data processing
