Job description

The GIS Specialist (Gas), provides technical and clerical support for Gas Operations by creating and maintaining maps showing underground gas distribution facilities. Analyze maps for accuracy to ensure public safety and the integrity of the system. Administer archive for legally required documents. Cover all We Energies gas areas.

Receive, analyze, and process construction work orders, maintenance/repair orders, service/ meter maintenance orders.

Other duties include but not limited to:

  • Account for all components
  • Working knowledge of gas distribution system, GPS, and data entry
  • Ability to interpret applicable forms and drawings to detect errors and relay this information to technicians for proper resolution
  • Take calls from the field

Requirements

Applicant must have one of the following:

Minimum of two years of GIS or CAD work experience in the past five years.

OR

One year of GIS or CAD work experience within the past five years plus four completed courses in GIS technology from an accredited post-secondary vocational school or college, completed within the past five years.

OR

Have a certificate in GIS Technology or completed equivalent coursework (six courses in GIS technology) from an accredited post-secondary vocational school or college, earned/completed within the past five years.

  • For positions in some locations, applicants must comply with DOT Part 199 Pipeline drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • This position may require unescorted access to certain critical cyber assets which would require applicants to satisfy all company and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection Standard 004 security requirements, which includes a background investigation.

Testing Requirements

Basic Clerical Aptitude test (BCAB): Ability to classify information according to preset rules; spelling and grammar; basic mathematics; filing and sorting information. Suggested Preparation: Review of basic arithmetic skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages; review rules of grammar, spelling, punctuation; and alphabetizing or putting items in order.
