Job description

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Requirements

To be successful as a Senior Java / Python Developer, you should have experience with: Building and maintaining Java services using Core Java, Spring Boot, SQL, and good fundamentals in concurrency, collections, JVM concepts, and object-oriented design Developing Python services and data-driven components using frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask, along with pandas, NumPy, data serialization, and clean exception handling Working effectively in a fast-paced front-office environment, delivering resilient solutions under pressure in complex and time-sensitive conditions Some other highly valued skills may include: Applying good software engineering practices including TDD, SDLC, containerization, instrumentation, and observability Designing, developing, and supporting distributed services using REST and messaging technologies such as Kafka, Solace, or MQ Domain knowledge in equity derivatives, risk, or quantitative investment strategies, with the ability to quickly ramp up in new problem spaces You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in this role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

Benefits & conditions

Minimum Salary: $120,000 Maximum Salary: $175,000 The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above includes only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available. Barclays employees are eligible for a suite of competitive and generous employee benefits, including medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k), life insurance, and other paid leave for qualifying circumstances. This position is eligible for an incentive award.
