Job description
The Penn State University Libraries' Strategic Technologies department is seeking a part-time, Software Developer to support the libraries' software development program. This position provides an opportunity to contribute to web applications and digital services that support discovery, access, and preservation for a major research library. Telework or hybrid option available
The successful candidate will work with the libraries' software development team to build and enhance applications used by researchers, students, and staff across the University. This role is well suited for a developer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and contributing to mission-driven software projects.
Responsibilities -
As part of the Libraries Strategic Technologies development team, you will:

Participate in the full software development lifecycle including planning, coding, testing, code review, and deployment.

Support ongoing development of discovery systems, repositories, and research infrastructure.

Write and maintain automated tests and documentation., Familiarity with maintaining or enhancing established software platforms or services.

Part-time, temporary appointment

Approximately 10-20 hours per week

Requirements
Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, Part-Time Software Developer, Penn State University Libraries - Strategic Technologies, * Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Sciences and Technology, or a related field.

Experience developing web applications and contributing to existing codebases.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Experience working with version control systems such as Git.

Ability to manage tasks independently and communicate effectively within a technical team.
Preferred Qualifications-

Experience with Ruby on Rails.

Experience with front-end development including JavaScript, HTML, and CSS .

Familiarity with REST APIs and web services.

Experience working in an agile development environment.

Familiarity with DevOps tools or CI/CD workflows.

Awareness of web accessibility guidelines and standards.

Experience working in an academic, research, or library technology environment.
