Job description
A Principal Systems Engineer is needed to support telecommunications initiatives across multiple operating units. Work includes both Business-As-Usual (BAU) upgrades and project-based initiatives, such as delivering fiber to tower gateway base stations, substations, and distribution substations for Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS). This program focuses on installing and replacing aging DC power plants for telecommunications systems within substations and microwave/wireless shelters. Role Overview The Principal Systems Engineer will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) supporting all operating units within the larger enterprise communications group. The engineer will manage daytoday battery and telecommunications power system support across numerous projects, including:

Conducting site walks and site surveys

Evaluating and updating existing designs
-
Updating standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for telecom DC power

Coordinating with external vendors (design firms, OEMs, construction contractors, etc.)

Collaborating with crossfunctional internal teams (engineering, electrical distribution, project management, etc.)
-
Managing documentation across internal databases
-
Collecting, maintaining, and updating asbuilt documentation
-
Performing load analysis and alarm troubleshooting Key Responsibilities Vendor & Stakeholder Coordination

Maintain strong relationships with OEMs, distributors, service providers, and construction contractors.

Coordinate daily with internal teams and project managers across all operating units.

Follow standardized vendor processes-no need to redesign workflows. Lifecycle Oversight for Battery Deployments The engineer oversees the full lifecycle of battery and DC power deployments:

Greenfield installations, replacements, and system upgrades
-
Performing site surveys and comparing results against documented designs
-
Determining the optimal deployment strategy
-
Creating Bills of Material (BOMs)
-
Working with vendors to order equipment and obtain deployment quotes
-
Overseeing scheduling, project execution, and quality control
-
Ensuring accurate completion of asbuilt documentation Operational Support

Provide support for alarms, technical questions, and Level 3 troubleshooting
-
No oncall or afterhours support required Field & Office Work

Expect approximately two days per week in the field

Requirements

Must be able to communicate effectively at all organizational levels Technical Requirements

Familiarity with 48V DC, 120V AC, and other AC voltages feeding telecom DC systems
-
Strong understanding of batteries, rectifiers, and telecom power infrastructure Top Required Skills
-
5+ years of experience installing or replacing DC/AC power systems and batteries for telecommunications networks, including alarming equipment and load calculations.

Deep understanding of the full deployment lifecycle for DC power and telecom systems, including required coordination across technical teams and vendors.

Proficiency in reading prints, performing site walks, completing documentation, and communicating with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Strong knowledge of battery sizing in accordance with IEEE standards. Additional Qualifications

Hybrid schedule: 3 days in office, 2 days remote (typically Tuesday-Thursday in office).

Personal vehicle required for site visits; mileage reimbursement provided.

Flexible office location-role supports multiple operating areas.

Must possess strong communication skills and the ability to build vendor relationships.

Telecom experience within utilities is helpful but not required; general communications industry experience is acceptable.

Strong knowledge of batteries, rectifiers, and IEEE standards is essential.

Limited exposure to DCtoDC converters; most systems use standard telecom DC voltages. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Newark, DE.
