Job description

As a key member of SBCERA's Information Services team, the Enterprise Systems Engineer is a senior technical role responsible for the architecture, deployment, and lifecycle management of SBCERA's on-premises, hybrid, and cloud-based enterprise systems. This position is both hands-on and strategic-leading system design, driving security posture, and providing escalated technical support to ensure our mission-critical infrastructure meets current and future business needs. The ideal candidate brings intellectual curiosity, technical rigor, and proactive problem-solving to elevate system reliability, performance, and security. THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS Candidates are expected to complete the full application including all relevant work experience, education, credentials/professional designations and a cover letter. DEFINITION

Under direction, the Enterprise Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and optimization of SBCERA's enterprise IT infrastructure across both on-premises and cloud environments. This includes virtualization, storage, backup and recovery, system monitoring, and vulnerability assessment. The role ensures the delivery of reliable, secure, and scalable systems that meet SBCERA's business needs and may act as a technical lead on enterprise projects. Essential functions of the role include but are not limited to:

  1. Design, implement, and manage scalable, cost-effective, and performance-based enterprise IT infrastructure, including, but not limited to, servers, networks, storage, and cloud solutions.
  2. Design, implement, and manage scalable, cost-effective, and performance-based on-premises data centers and cloud-based services, including, but not limited to, AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
  3. Design, implement, and manage enterprise backup, high availability (HA), scalability, and disaster recovery (DR) strategies and solutions that ensure failover mechanisms and redundancies are in place for mission-critical systems and applications.
  4. Design, implement, and manage enterprise operating system environments, including, but not limited to, Windows, Windows Server, Linux, and macOS.
  5. Design, implement, and manage scalable, cost-effective, and performance-based virtualized environments, including but not limited to, VMware, Hyper-V, Azure Local, Nutanix, and KVM.
  6. Design, implement, and manage scalable, cost-effective, and performance-based enterprise storage solutions, including but not limited to SAN, NAS, and cloud storage.
  7. Design, implement, and manage scalable, cost-effective, and performance-based workloads across on-premises and cloud environments.
  8. Design, implement, and manage scalable, cost-effective, and performance-based hybrid cloud solutions, including, but not limited to, AWS Outposts, Azure Arc, and Google Anthos.
  9. Design, implement, and manage scalable, cost-effective, and performance-based monitoring solutions, including, but not limited to, SolarWinds, Splunk, Datadog, Nagios, AWS CloudWatch, and Azure Monitor for enterprise-wide observability.
  10. Provide backup support for the enterprise networks, including, but not limited to, routers, switches, firewalls, security appliances, and Zero Trust Security.
  11. Provide support in troubleshooting complex hardware, software, and network issues within the enterprise environments.
  12. Provide backup support, monitor and respond to cybersecurity threats, and ensure compliance with industry regulations, including but not limited to GDPR, HIPAA, and ISO 27001.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

Education, Experience and License/Certificates A combination of education, experience and license/certificate that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in computer science, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: At least four (4) years of performing server administration.
  • Desired Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate, Microsoft 365 Certified Fundamentals, Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert, Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, Microsoft 365 Certified: Messaging Administrator Associate, Microsoft 365 Certified: Security Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Server 2019 or higher certification (various).
  • Licenses: A valid California Class C driver's license may be required.
  • Special Requirements: Willingness to travel as necessary for meetings, due diligence, and conferences.

Substitution of Certification for Education or Experience: Certification in server administration physical and/or virtual, or Azure administration may be substituted for up to two (2) years of experience or combined with an Associated Degree to fulfil the minimum qualifications. A Single Certification may not grant a full substitution depending on subject matter and level of certification.

Substitution of Vocational Training for Experience or Education: Applicable vocational training/education may be substituted for up to two (2) years of experience or may be combined with an Associated Degree to fulfil the minimum qualifications. Vocational training/experience will be weighed on a case-by-case basis and may not grant a full substitution depending on subject matter and length of training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Some travel to training and conferences may be required.

This position primarily operates in an office environment. Occasional travel and after-hours work may be required to support system maintenance or respond to emergencies.
