Job description
The Infrastructure Technician helps oversee technology equipment, network connectivity, and assists in coordinating infrastructure projects to support the Columbia Public School District's mission. This role involves project management and coordinates with multiple district stakeholders including Facilities and Construction Services, and outside vendors to implement and maintain technology systems across CPS sites. This position will oversee multiple projects, ensuring they meet timelines and budgets, while providing technical support to ensure seamless operation of technology in classrooms and offices. Strong project management, communication skills, and technical knowledge are essential for success in this role., Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Plan and oversee technology portions of construction projects, including working with Facilities and Construction Services, outside contractors and architects on new projects.
- Serve as a liaison between the Technology Services department and Facilities and Construction and outside contractors and architects.
- Lead, guide, and help to develop the technology team who is responsible for onsite support for infrastructure projects, working in close partnership with lead technicians.
- Serve as the knowledge contact/source for other CPS technicians in regards to infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate with the Procurement Specialist for budgeting and ordering of needed supplies and equipment.
- Install and troubleshoot data, telephone and intercom wiring.
- Install, terminate and troubleshoot fiber optic lines and connections.
- Install/build network closets and cabinets.
- Design, install and maintain intercom and bell systems.
- Schedule and coordinate wiring jobs and projects including the understanding of blueprints and/or diagrams.
- Schedule, coordinate and perform writing jobs and projects with outside vendors.
- Troubleshoot officially supported peripherals attached to district computers, including SMARTboards and Interactive Panels.
- Perform bench repairs on specified computers and peripheral equipment.
- Evaluate and maintain site based parts inventory and initiate supply requests.
- Assist in maintaining accurate equipment inventory records.
- Provide assistance with scheduled equipment relocation and new equipment.
- Assist with internal training/troubleshooting techniques on hardware and peripheral basics.
- Troubleshoot and correct network connectivity issues.
- Perform time clock and peripheral troubleshooting.
- Be able to work in a fast-paced environment and balance multiple tasks at once.
- Must be comfortable working at heights, including on ladders and aerial lifts, as required by the position.
- Participate as a collaborative member of the Technology Support Team.
- Participate in meetings and committees as required of the position.
- Understand and adhere to Board policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Technology Services Infrastructure Coordinator.
Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports To: Infrastructure Division Coordinator and Director of IITS
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in Computer Information Systems or a combination of education, certifications, and related work experience. Strong communication and organizational skills. Proof of valid State Motor Vehicle Operation License.
Preferred Qualifications: Fiber Optic installation certification. PMP. Demonstrated ability to learn new technical skills quickly and solve/address complex technical problems effectively, while directing the work of others.
Ideal Candidate: At least five years working in a related position and will also have a professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast-paced environment.

Other Skills and Abilities: Work closely with a variety of staff members and demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills; Safeguard confidential information.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position an employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear; The employee is frequently required to move about and use fingers and controls; The employee is occasionally required to reach, bend, and lift and carry up to fifty pounds; Close vision ability to look at a computer screen for long periods of time is required.
