As the Deputy Director for the Center for Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT Center), you will join a team dedicated to advancing racial justice, collective healing, and narrative change across Duke University, the Durham community, and beyond.

This is an opportunity to shape transformative programs, drive strategic racial equity initiatives, and support community healing at scale. In this leadership role, you'll partner with campus stakeholders, community organizations, and national networks to foster empathy, equity, and unity.

What You'll Do

PROGRAM COORDINATION & ASSESSMENT (25%) &bull Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of TRHT Center programs. &bull Plan and manage logistics for events, retreats, and community dialogues. &bull Lead regular assessment of program outcomes and implement data-informed improvements.

TRAINING, LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT (25%) &bull Design, implement, and lead training initiatives on Rx Racial Healing and related topics. &bull Create and deliver workshops, healing circles, seminars, and dialogues. &bull Build relationships with external facilitators and subject-matter experts. &bull Develop and support a trainers' network/community of practice.

COLLABORATION & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT (15%) &bull Enhance awareness and participation in TRHT initiatives across Duke. &bull Serve as a liaison with local, regional, and national organizations. &bull Maintain relationships with faculty, students, alumni, and external partners.

STRATEGIC VISIONING & PLANNING (10%) &bull Collaborate with the Director and stakeholders on long-term TRHT strategy. &bull Identify new programming and partnership opportunities. &bull Integrate emerging racial justice and healing trends.

ADMINISTRATIVE & FISCAL MANAGEMENT (10%) &bull Support budget management for TRHT programs. &bull Track program milestones, deliverables, and documentation. &bull Assist with grants, funding applications, and reporting. &bull Contribute to writing and editing materials including articles, monographs, newsletters, and web content.

SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS, INTERNS & VOLUNTEERS (10%) &bull Supervise and mentor students, interns, and volunteers. &bull Lead recruitment and onboarding for student and volunteer roles. &bull Provide leadership skill development and mentoring.

OTHER DUTIES (5%) &bull Travel as needed to represent TRHT in meetings, conferences, and presentations. &bull Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

&bull Master's degree or equivalent experience in fields such as Social Justice, Racial/Ethnic Studies, or Community Engagement. &bull Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in program management, training, or racial justice work. &bull Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills. &bull Strong organizational and project management abilities., * Knowledge of racial justice, community organizing, and social change practices.

  • Ability to develop and execute strategic plans.
  • Experience supervising students, interns, or volunteers.
  • Familiarity with academic environments.
  • Experience in program assessment and data-informed decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong professional network in racial justice and healing spaces.
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence.
  • Grant writing or fundraising experience.
  • PHD, JD, or other doctoral degree in fields such as Social Justice, Racial/Ethnic Studies, or Community Engagement
