Job description
The incumbent will apply intermediate professional Information Systems concepts to support the reliable operation of CAIDA's dataset-access systems and related workflows. They will work within established procedures to help ensure that the applications and automated processes used to deliver scientific research datasets function consistently, are well-documented, and remain accessible to authorized users. Additionally, they will assist in resolving routine issues affecting workflow behavior, updating configuration and descriptor files, and running scheduled automation tasks that support scientific data-access operations. The incumbent will also maintain structured descriptor files and system-generated metadata associated with scientific dataset-access workflows, ensuring information required for dataset releases is kept current in accordance with established procedures.
The Information Systems Analyst will operate with moderate supervision, exercising judgment within defined practices to document system behaviors, update user-facing materials, and communicate procedural information to external users of scientific datasets. They will support account and credential management for dataset-access systems, responds to routine inquiries, and provides guidance on established access procedures while escalating complex issues as appropriate as well as contribute to the preparation and maintenance of clear documentation describing how scientific datasets are accessed, organized, access procedures, workflow behaviors, and resource availability.
In addition, the incumbent will assist with routine testing activities and provides feedback on system behavior during evaluations, and documentation updates that help maintain stable and well-understood data-access workflows. They will update scripts under guidance to automate recurring tasks or summarize workflow logs for internal reporting needs and maintain internal records of dataset-access activity generated by CAIDA's systems and helps ensure that information needed for project documentation is accurate and current. Additionally, they will collaborate with technical staff to report routine operational issues, suggest updates to documentation when recurring issues are observed, and support consistent operation of CAIDA's data-access applications and services., a. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Masters degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training preferred.
- General knowledge of several areas of IT. Demonstrated ability to read, write, and adapt Python scripts. Familiarity with reading and modifying HTML, YAML, or XML markup files.
- Demonstrated ability to install software and troubleshoot and repair moderately complex problems with computing devices, peripherals and software. Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance. Basic knowledge of incident response procedures. Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications.
- Knowledge of data management systems, practices and standards.
- Demonstrated understanding of how system management actions affect users and dependent / related functions.
- Demonstrated ability to write and modify basic shell scripts used in routine operational tasks in Linux operating systems, particularly Ubuntu.

Benefits & conditions
Annual Full Pay Range: $71,600 - $127,400 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $34.29 - $61.02
