Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides comprehensive technical support to the District's information technology infrastructures, including administrative and educational applications, workstations, data networking, and telecommunications systems to ensure seamless operation and maintenance of enterprise-wide technology. SUPERVISION:

Receives general supervision from the Information Technology Director, or designated manager.

Positions in this classification exercise no supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assess, troubleshoot, and resolve IT-related service requests, including hardware and software configuration issues, as well as network and server enhancements.
  • Perform skilled technical work in administering, planning, installing, configuring, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading various LAN and WAN devices throughout the District.
  • Develop and document procedures for the installation, configuration, and deployment products.
  • Assist in the design and security of data transmission networks, including wireless, phone, and data networks.
  • Install, configure, and maintain complex, multi-vendor hardware and software in a networked and non-networked environment;
  • Document and maintain logs, records, and reports for service tracking, inventory of equipment, and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate with team members, vendors, and IT personnel for onsite technical problem resolution and project management.
  • Consult with IT personnel and vendors on telecommunication and networking problems and instruct users on properly operating related equipment.
  • Analyze problems and develop standards, alternatives, and solutions for data communications equipment, software, and facilities.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of network enhancement strategies.
  • Simulate, evaluate, and resolve hardware and software problems.
  • Test and evaluate data communications systems for optimal performance, including reconfiguring and upgrading software and related equipment.
  • Train staff on various software applications and serve as a technical resource.
  • Assist with the installation and administration of application systems, document imaging, and inventory tracking systems.
  • Document and maintain all logs, records, and reports for service tracking, inventory of equipment and maintenance activities.
  • Adjust normal working schedules to perform duties when required.
  • Perform job related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING:

Any combination of experience and education/training that demonstrates an ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Three years of paid full-time experience in an enterprise wide PC environment performing the duties of advanced technical support, including IP networking; Windows server implementation and support; desktop and laptop configuration, installation, and support.

Extensive work on implementation and support of District-wide application systems is desirable.

AND

High school graduation or the equivalent.

An appropriate, valid California driver's license and auto liability insurance, must be presented/available upon acceptance of the offer of employment and maintained throughout employment in this position.

ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION: This is a non-exempt position, Regular Classified Salary Range 49A. Most positions in this class work 8hours/12months. The probationary period for employees in this classification is six (6) months (or 130 working days of paid service).

THE EXAMINATION:

  • Written Examination. WEIGHT: 100%
  • Only qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process.
  • Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit.
  • Candidates will be notified in accordance with the Personnel Commission Rules.
  • This eligibility list will be active for a period of (1) year.
