Job description
Under general supervision, administers the District's data network and computer systems to include the design, installation and maintenance of servers and network infrastructure; troubleshoot, repair and provide technical support for the District's Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and 9-1-1 Telephony systems, and provide technical support to users.

Tasks
Assist in the supervision of contractors and vendors and provide technical support and assistance.
Maintain the District's local/wide area networks to include: personal computers, laptop computers, printers, servers, application software, routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems, cell phones, infrastructure cabling, and related components.
Perform routine system maintenance, optimization, and backups.
Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of computer system, networking, and telecommunication projects; assist managers in decision-making process prior to, during, and after implementation.
Provide technical support for satellite sites; coordinate support services; provide support for client/server network; respond to requests for service.
Assist other specialists and Technology Department staff in their duties when needed as directed.
Maintain logs and documentation of system operations, activities, modifications, maintenance, procedures, and other activities.
Maintain inventory of department equipment, components, parts, tools, and supplies; ensure availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiate orders for new/replacement materials.
Maintain a working knowledge of a variety of computer and telecommunication operating systems, programming languages, and software programs, which may include word processing, spreadsheet, database, networking, e-mail, DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, Terminal Services, Microsoft Server and Client operating systems, Cisco IOS, Fortinet, VMware vSphere, and related information technology components.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, managers, co-workers, other departments, emergency services agencies, system users, vendors, sales representatives, technical service providers, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction. Attend various meetings as needed.
Maintain a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws/regulations; maintain an awareness of new technologies, programs, equipment, trends, and advances in the profession; read professional manuals and publications to increase knowledge of computer operations; review technical manuals, documentation, and publications; attend workshops, seminars, and training sessions as appropriate.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Perform general/clerical tasks, which may include minor equipment repair, answering telephone calls, typing documents, making copies, sending/receiving faxes, or filing documentation.
Provide assistance to other employees, divisions, or departments as needed.

Requirements
Knowledge of federal, state, district and county laws, rules, regulations, practices and procedures related to telecommunications, personal computers and peripherals. Knowledge of security methods and practices related to government database use. Knowledge of physical and virtual server installation, maintenance and repair. Knowledge of network systems, installation, maintenance and repair practices and procedures. Knowledge of customer service practices. Knowledge of virtualization systems and storage area networks. Knowledge of SQL queries and reporting. Knowledge of Asterisk PBX functionality. Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, and Exchange Online. Skill prioritizing, scheduling, assigning, reviewing and evaluating work. Skill evaluating, analyzing, planning and implementing new and/or enhanced software. Skill analyzing and resolving customer/client needs. Skill monitoring and troubleshooting microcomputer systems and related peripherals. Skill providing technical support and training to staff and end users. Skill utilizing verbal and written communication to develop reports, training and support end users in problem resolution. Skill utilizing customer service/public relations techniques when responding to inquiries and complaints. Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Skill effectively communicating in both oral and written form., A Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Technology, or closely related field with three (3) years of experience. A valid driver's license is required., An Associate's Degree and five (5) years progressive work experience in a similar network environment and training that includes information systems management, network administration, computer programming, computer systems administration or technical support experience to include Microsoft and Cisco products. A valid driver's license is required., A high school diploma and seven (7) years progressive work experience in a similar network environment and training that includes information systems management, network administration, computer programming, computer systems administration or technical support experience to include Microsoft and Cisco products. A valid driver's license is required., Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Medical coverage is offered through Cigna to fulltime employees. The County pays a generous portion of the medical premium. Two options are available to choose from: LCP (Local Cost Plus) and OAP (Open Access Plus).
- The LCP has a smaller network that includes most providers and hospitals, with the exception of Parkridge facilities/providers.
- The OAP is a national network of facilities/providers that includes most providers/hospitals, including Parkridge.
Dental coverage is a voluntary benefit available to fulltime employees. Three coverage options are offered: Cigna High Plan, Cigna Low Plan, and Sun Life DHMO.
- The Cigna High Dental Plan covers orthodontia for children up to age 18. A national network of dental providers is available to choose from and this plan offers out of network coverage.

Hamilton County Government Retirement for Fulltime Employees:
Pension - Legacy Plan (hired prior to 10/1/2015), in which the employer contributes 14.70%.
Pension - Hybrid Plan (hired on or after 10/1/2015), in which the employee contributes 5% and the employer contributes 4%.
401K - Employer contributes 5% and the employee can contribute the amount of their choice.

Parental Leave:
Hamilton County provides eight (8) weeks of paid maternity leave and two (2) weeks of paid paternity leave following the birth of a child or placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption (age 13 or younger) or foster care.
Paid Time Off:
Hamilton County Government provides generous paid time off (PTO) to fulltime employees from the start of employment.
- Years 1 - 5: an employee will accrue 5.85 hours of leave, per pay period.
- Years 5 - 10: an employee will accrue 6.77 hours of leave, per pay period.
- Years 11-15: an employee will accrue 8.31hours of leave, per pay period.
- Year 15 and each year thereafter, an employee will accrue 8.93 hours of leave, per pay period.
