Job description

On behalf of our client, we are looking for a highly experienced Principal R&D Hardware Engineer to lead development of auxiliary hardware systems for HVDC stations and transmission solutions. This is a senior technical leadership role where you will drive conceptual design, system architecture, and development of hardware solutions critical to HVDC infrastructure.

You will act as a technical authority within the R&D organization, guiding design decisions, supporting cross-disciplinary collaboration, and ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Assignment Scope:

  • Lead R&D activities related to conceptualization, simulation, and development of auxiliary hardware systems for HVDC solutions
  • Design and develop hardware systems such as cooling systems, protection systems, control interfaces, and power supply units
  • Act as technical authority for hardware architecture and engineering decisions
  • Collaborate closely with system, software, and mechanical engineering teams to ensure successful integration within HVDC solutions
  • Lead reliability analysis, failure mode analysis (FMEA), and risk assessments
  • Oversee testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of auxiliary hardware systems
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and contribute to technical knowledge sharing within the organization
  • Engage with customers and suppliers to clarify technical requirements and align design objectives
  • Represent the organization in technical forums, industry working groups, or HVDC-related conferences

Requirements

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in hardware development for power systems
  • Strong experience with HVDC technology or auxiliary systems used in high-voltage applications
  • Proven experience leading complex engineering projects or technical innovation initiatives
  • Deep understanding of industry standards and best practices for high-voltage systems
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Experience with circuit design, simulation, and hardware testing tools
  • Experience with reliability engineering, regulatory compliance, and functional safety in power systems
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in international and multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Fluency in English, spoken and written
