Job description
To develop fundamental skills including Analysis, Design, Development, and Implementation of the computer-based Information Systems to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and support the business processes of the University, including the Student, Finance, Human Resources (ERP systems) and all associated third party software applications. Description of Duties
- Software Development Phase:
o Displays the fundamental requirement analysis skills that includes the various tasks of gathering, analyzing, documenting, validating and managing software requirements. o Develops the fundamental coding skills that involve the creation of a technical design document to provide a technical solution using abstract concepts and adhering to standards developed by the department, primarily to procedures relating to Software Development Lifecycle. o Analysis/Design- Builds fundamental skills for effectively communicating with the customer (in most cases a business analyst or equivalent) to obtain information for creating technical documentation and provides the details for code development with emphasis in ingenuity and creativity to design and create new, functional software programs and complete applications. o Builds fundamental testing skills to validate the code before releasing to customer for integrated testing. o Assumes Problem Solver Duty- Responsible for investigating and resolving problem issues occurring during scheduled week with occasional assistance of senior staff for guidance and direction.
- Develops fundamental knowledge of the functionality of the modules supported in the Enterprise Administrative systems.
- Develops fundamental technical research skills to keep job knowledge up-to-date and in most case self-teaches new languages and new development tools to ensure the most feasible technical solution is proposed.
- Documents the solutions using an industry standard technical document format. Example: Use Case Model, MD050.
- Learns the high level technical database structures of supported Enterprise Administrative systems.
- Tracks hours expended per assignment for reporting needs of department.
- Develops fundamental skills of interviewing customers to extract key information and direction to formulate and propose a solution.
- Has minimal judgment latitude for required decisions affecting deviations from approved project/assignment proposals.
- Acquires the skills of using the various software tools to maintain the different components of the Enterprise Administrative systems.
- Performs other duties as assigned. Supervision Received General supervision from assigned supervisor. Supervision Given May supervise assigned staff. Required Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a Computer related major from an accredited university. Preferred Education None. Licenses/Certifications None., Equipment Use of standard office equipment. Working Conditions Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend/evening work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Other Possess resourcefulness and creative thinking skills for problem resolution. Basic analytical skills to effectively and accurately identify problem code. Good written and verbal communication skills. Basic technical research skills (technical manuals and resources). Work effectively as an individual and as a team. Fundamental technical writing skills for documentation.
Requirements
Experience in structured development coding skills in various computer languages, emphasis in procedural SQL, database concepts and coding., To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position., + High School Diploma or GED
- Associates Degree, Technical, or Trade School Degree/Certification or 60 Hours of College Hours
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited university
- Masters Degree from an accredited university
