Your Team & Role

As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to the design and development of backend services, internal tools, and shared platform capabilities that support application teams across the organization.

You will work with product owners, senior engineers, and platform teams to build reliable services and automation that improve developer workflows, deployment processes, and operational consistency. This role is ideal for engineers who have a solid engineering foundation and are ready to grow deeper in backend, cloud, and platform-oriented development.

What You Can Expect on a Typical Day

  • Design, build, and enhance backend services and APIs using modern engineering practices
  • Contribute to internal tools or platforms that improve developer productivity and onboarding
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code aligned with Prudential engineering standards
  • Collaborate with product owners and senior engineers to understand requirements and deliver features
  • Participate in design and code reviews to strengthen engineering quality and consistency
  • Develop and maintain small automation components or services that support developer workflows
  • Work in containerized environments, with growing exposure to Kubernetes-based deployments
  • Assist with unit and integration testing and help diagnose issues found in testing or production
  • Apply foundational practices around logging, monitoring, and reliability
  • Gain exposure to emerging areas such as AI-assisted development tools or workflows, as part of broader platform initiatives, * Grow as a Software Engineer with guidance from experienced engineers
  • Build systems that support and scale how teams develop and deploy software
  • Develop skills in backend development, cloud platforms, and modern tooling
  • Gain exposure to Kubernetes and AI-assisted workflows without being expected to be an expert
  • Be part of a collaborative, inclusive team that values learning and continuous improvement

Requirements

  • Approximately 1-3 years of professional software engineering experience
  • Experience building backend services using JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or Java
  • Working knowledge of API development and service-oriented architectures
  • Familiarity with Git-based version control and collaborative development workflows
  • Experience with automated testing and agile development practices
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn new technologies
  • Clear communication and collaboration skills

Technical Experience (Expected / Developing)

  • Hands-on experience with Node.js or Python for backend development
  • Basic experience with containers (Docker) and interest in Kubernetes-based platforms
  • Exposure to cloud environments (AWS preferred), even if at a foundational level
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and developer workflows
  • Interest in platform engineering, shared services, or internal tooling, * Exposure to internal platforms, developer portals, or shared tooling
  • Introductory understanding of observability concepts (logging, metrics, monitoring)
  • Curiosity about AI-enabled developer tools and how they can improve productivity
  • Experience working in large-scale or enterprise environments

Benefits & conditions

Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $82,000.00 to $135,300.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
