Job description

Own end-to-end solution architecture for large-scale, distributed microservice platforms. Design and govern event-driven architectures using Kafka, CDC patterns, and workflow orchestration. Lead architectural decision-making, design reviews, and technical governance across multiple teams. Partner with engineering, product, and platform teams to define scalable, multi-tenant solutions. Drive legacy modernization efforts, including mainframe-to-cloud migrations. Establish standards for reliability, performance, security, and scalability. Mentor senior engineers and architects; provide technical leadership across teams of 15+ engineers. Ensure solutions align with enterprise platform standards, CI/CD practices, and cloud-native principles.

Requirements

We are seeking a highly experienced Solution Architect to lead the design and evolution of large-scale, distributed, event-driven systems. This role requires deep hands-on technical expertise, strong architectural judgment, and the ability to lead and influence multiple engineering teams delivering mission-critical platforms at scale. The ideal candidate has extensive experience modernizing legacy systems, designing cloud-native microservices, and driving architectural standards across complex domains such as order management, supply chain, or e-commerce platforms., Java / Spring Boot: 8+ years building production-grade microservices. Distributed Systems: 5+ years designing event-driven, distributed architectures. Apache Cassandra: 3+ years in data modeling, schema design, and performance tuning. Apache Kafka: 3+ years designing event streaming architectures (topics, consumer groups, exactly-once semantics). Kubernetes: 2+ years deploying and operating services on Kubernetes platforms (WCNP or equivalent). Architecture Leadership: 3+ years as a technical architect or principal engineer leading large engineering teams.

Technical Skills

Hands-on experience with Temporal or Cadence for workflow orchestration (retries, compensation, versioning). Production experience with GraphQL, preferably using Netflix DGS. Deep expertise in Change Data Capture (CDC) patterns using Debezium, Kafka Connect, or similar technologies. Experience with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch for indexing and query optimization. Proficiency with BigQuery or comparable cloud data warehouses for analytics pipelines. CI/CD pipeline design using Looper, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions, including automated quality gates. Strong background in performance engineering, including load testing, capacity planning, and latency optimization.

Domain Expertise

Order Management Systems (OMS), supply chain, or e-commerce platform modernization. Legacy modernization experience (mainframe to cloud), including IMS, DB2, COBOL, or similar technologies. Multi-market, multi-tenant SaaS or platform architectures. Understanding of international trade concepts (Incoterms, customs, letters of credit) is a plus for import-focused platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience within Walmart's technology ecosystem (WCNP, Strati, Electrode, OneOps/Looper). Familiarity with Walmart SPA guidelines and multi-tenancy architecture patterns. Experience with React / Electrode (Node.js) front-end frameworks. PostgreSQL experience for auxiliary or transactional data stores. Retail domain expertise, including PO lifecycle, replenishment, and supplier management. Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or equivalent certification.

Technical Proficiency Matrix

Java / Spring Boot - Expert (8+ years) Apache Kafka - Expert (3+ years) Apache Cassandra - Advanced (3+ years) Temporal Workflows - Advanced (2+ years) Kubernetes / WCNP - Advanced (2+ years) GraphQL / Netflix DGS - Advanced (2+ years) Elasticsearch / OpenSearch - Advanced (2+ years) CDC (Debezium / Kafka Connect) - Advanced (2+ years) BigQuery / Data Warehousing - Intermediate (1+ years) PostgreSQL - Intermediate (1+ years) React / Electrode / Node.js - Familiarity DB2 / Legacy Mainframe - Familiarity
