Job description
We're looking for professionals who are highly motivated to apply their expertise in developing, deploying, and maintaining advanced, mission-critical operational networks. This full-time hybrid role, based in Lorton, VA, generally requires 10% travel (approximately once per quarter) for Program Increment (PI) planning. What You'll Be Doing
- Modernizing operational mission systems to ensure mission effectiveness, reliability, and cybersecurity.
- Designing and developing software application upgrades from high-level or non-specific government-provided concepts.
- Producing detailed specifications and design documentation, including process flows, class and sequence diagrams, physical architectures, interfaces, and data dictionaries.
- Creating accurate project work estimates and timelines.
- Implementing software solutions, identifying operational issues, and contributing to ongoing improvement efforts.
- Supporting system design, policy development, database management, and user interface development.
- Leveraging Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) software wherever possible to minimize proprietary dependencies.Key Responsibilities
- Perform operating system upgrades and security patches to maintain mission system readiness and compliance.
- Transition, modernize, and maintain core application codebases.
- Collaborate on new feature implementation, technical enhancement, and reduction of technical debt to meet evolving mission requirements.
- Participate in requirement reviews, backlog grooming, documentation updates, and environment/tooling setup.
- Support demonstrations and technical reviews during development sprints and Program Increments.
Requirements
- Active Secret, minimumEducation:
- Four (4) year college degree in software development or computer science
- In lieu of education, ten (10) years of experience of software development for systems in a production environment.Experience to include:
- Five (5) years' experience of systems administration in a production environment
- Experience with system sustainment and maintenance; operating system and application patching and upgrades
- Must be familiar with a variety of scripts, programming languages, and operating systems (see preferred skills belowPreferred Skills:
