Software Developer - Journeyman

We're looking for professionals who are highly motivated to apply their expertise in developing, deploying, and maintaining advanced, mission-critical operational networks. This full-time hybrid role, based in Lorton, VA, generally requires 10% travel (approximately once per quarter) for Program Increment (PI) planning. What You'll Be Doing

• Modernizing operational mission systems to ensure mission effectiveness, reliability, and cybersecurity.
• Designing and developing software application upgrades from high-level or non-specific government-provided concepts.
• Producing detailed specifications and design documentation, including process flows, class and sequence diagrams, physical architectures, interfaces, and data dictionaries.
• Creating accurate project work estimates and timelines.
• Implementing software solutions, identifying operational issues, and contributing to ongoing improvement efforts.
• Supporting system design, policy development, database management, and user interface development.
• Leveraging Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) software wherever possible to minimize proprietary dependencies.Key Responsibilities
• Perform operating system upgrades and security patches to maintain mission system readiness and compliance.
• Transition, modernize, and maintain core application codebases.
• Collaborate on new feature implementation, technical enhancement, and reduction of technical debt to meet evolving mission requirements.
• Participate in requirement reviews, backlog grooming, documentation updates, and environment/tooling setup.
• Support demonstrations and technical reviews during development sprints and Program Increments.

• Active Secret, minimumEducation:
• Four (4) year college degree in software development or computer science
• In lieu of education, ten (10) years of experience of software development for systems in a production environment.Experience to include:
• Five (5) years' experience of systems administration in a production environment
• Experience with system sustainment and maintenance; operating system and application patching and upgrades
• Must be familiar with a variety of scripts, programming languages, and operating systems (see preferred skills belowPreferred Skills:
