Job description

Hybrid: This role is categorized as Hybrid. This means that the successful candidate is expected to report to the office, on-site, three times (Tue., Wed., Thurs.) per week, at minimum., As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for software design and implementation using sound, repeatable, industry standard methodologies. Your tasks will span the entire software development lifecycle, such as requirements analysis, design, code implementation, testing, debugging, defect resolution, and production release. We are looking for creative people with a desire to work in embedded software to join our highly capable team focused on leading-edge technology solution development., * Design, development, implement, and debug of embedded controls systems software in embedded C language

  • Test & demonstrate software functionality & readiness in prototype benches.
  • Supply common solutions across all GM owned software
  • Document requirements for design solution and link them to test cases that can demonstrate software functionality
  • Utilize automated test tools in build environments and benches to verify functionality of the developed software
  • Collaborate with specialized teams such as Systems, Safety, Electrical Architecture, Cybersecurity, Hardware, Calibration, and Vehicle Performance
  • Support root cause analysis and debugging
  • Collaborate with Suppliers to develop micro, peripheral, and ECU specific solutions for new technology
  • Drive software quality improvements to determine if restructuring is needed to improve quality, maintainability, reusability, or other software improvements
  • Troubleshoot code to resolve design deficiencies and develop solutions to resolve them, At this level you are expected to operate with a high level of independent discernment and are typically responsible for implementing functional strategy, administering and coordinating programs, counseling and advising management.

As a fully-qualified individual contributor who has thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the function, you will provide expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of technical products and systems.

Resolve highly complex technical issues and conducts advanced research.

Recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or an equivalent Engineering degree
  • Experience related to embedded (C, C++) controls and/or controls/software development.
  • Mechatronic software experience
  • Proven ability to work independently under a tight, demanding schedule, also supporting customers of the embedded platform.
  • Understanding and knowledge of microcontroller infrastructure and low-level embedded software principles
  • Experience and use of configuration management and version control practices (Git, GitHub, etc.)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with sometimes incomplete requirements.
  • High level of analytical problem-solving skills where problems are unusual and difficult.
  • Ability to Participate in cross-functional scrum teams while demonstrating high level of collaboration and negotiation.
  • Demonstrated honesty, integrity, and trust. Lead by example.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills):

  • Master of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or an equivalent Engineering degree
  • Minimum 2+ years Engineering experience related to Automotive embedded controls systems
  • Experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) for multi-core microcontrollers, including performing root cause analysis on those microcontrollers
  • Knowledge of AUTOSAR and ISO functional safety and cybersecurity standards
