Job description

Overview: A public sector client of ours in Austin, Texas is looking for a Report Data Architect for a 5-month contract that is likely to extend.

The Report Data Architect is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise reporting data models that support operational reporting, dashboards, business KPIs, and advanced analytics. This role defines and documents data architecture standards, best practices, and governance guidelines while ensuring reporting environments are scalable, secure, and aligned with modernization initiatives.

The architect partners with enterprise architects, data engineering teams, reporting teams, and business stakeholders to design efficient ETL/ELT pipelines, semantic layers, and reusable reporting datasets. The position translates business requirements into scalable data structures and workflows while ensuring consistency, integrity, and compliance across reporting platforms.

This role also provides mentorship and architectural guidance to report developers and analysts, ensuring enterprise-wide alignment on metrics, definitions, and governance standards., * Design and maintain scalable reporting data models, including fact and dimension structures, star and snowflake schemas, and semantic layers.

  • Translate business requirements into technical data structures and data flows.
  • Lead the design of scalable data solutions supporting growth and modernization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with reporting teams to ensure consistent definitions, calculations, and KPIs across the organization.
  • Develop reusable data assets for BI platforms such as Microsoft Power BI and similar reporting tools.
  • Partner with enterprise architects and data engineering teams to design efficient ETL/ELT pipelines and integration workflows.
  • Establish and enforce data governance standards, including naming conventions, metadata management, and documentation practices.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, integrity, and compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Troubleshoot complex data issues and provide architectural direction for resolution.
  • Work closely with business units and mainframe teams to understand reporting needs and analytical goals.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to report developers and analysts on best practices in data modeling and reporting architecture.

Requirements

  • Eight (8) years of experience in data modeling, including star schema, snowflake schema, and semantic modeling techniques.
  • Six (6) years of hands-on experience with enterprise reporting platforms such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, or SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • Eight (8) years of experience translating business requirements into scalable technical data structures and workflows.
  • Eight (8) years of experience using Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and SharePoint.
  • Six (6) years of experience designing KPIs, business metrics, and applying analytical methodologies.
  • Eight (8) years of experience interpreting data models, data dictionaries, and technical documentation.
  • Four (4) years of experience applying data governance frameworks and metadata management practices.
  • Six (6) years of experience working in fast-paced, evolving environments while delivering projects on schedule, exercising sound judgment, and resolving complex data challenges.
  • Two (2) years of experience demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, including negotiation, conflict resolution, and collaboration across multiple organizational levels.

Preferred Experience:

  • Three (3) years of experience working with mainframe systems, including IMS, COBOL file structures, JCL, and batch processes.
  • Two (2) years of experience applying local, state, and federal data privacy regulations, including PII-related compliance requirements.
  • Five (5) years of experience supporting data-focused modernization initiatives, such as migrating from legacy systems to modern data platforms.
