Job description
You will work closely with the founder and an external engineering contractor to deliver the initial MVP, influence technical architecture, review code, and eventually lead the internal engineering team after the pilot. The role requires flexibility across product, technical leadership, and early-stage execution. Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the founder and external contractors on early pilot development (first 36 months).
- Own backend architecture; design, review, and deliver production-quality code. Oversee external engineering contractors and ensure delivery against milestones.
- Recruit, onboard, and mentor future engineering hires.
- Collaborate with product, risk, compliance, and go-to-market stakeholders as the organization scales.
- Maintain high standards for code quality, auditability, and development velocity.
- Design systems for payments and fintech: working-capital solutions, payouts, ledgers, reconciliation, and coverage checks.
- Ship quickly and iterate based on partner and customer feedback.
Requirements
A. 2-7 years of engineering experience with a strong emphasis on backend development (e.g., Node, TypeScript, React/Next.js; Rust or distributed-ledger systems a plus but not required). B. Proven experience launching and scaling v1 fintech or payment products. C. Background working with high-throughput, auditable financial systems (e.g., payment processors, treasury platforms, or enterprise finance tools). D. Strong systems thinker with understanding of distributed data models, contracts, and clean separation of concerns. E. Comfortable operating in ambiguous, zero-to-one start-up environments and managing external vendors.
